Responsibilities
Successful candidate will take part in an apprenticeship program administered by the New York Power Authority.
The selected candidate is responsible for all aspects of power plant operations. This includes monitoring of generation and transmission systems and operating all auxiliary equipment associated with the generators. Checking all alarms and taking appropriate action as necessary to protect service and equipment. Perform high voltage switching in switchyards throughout the Northern NY Transmission System. Conduct inspections throughout the power plant and switchyards on a weekly/monthly basis. Perform all work in a safe efficient manner while maintaining all environmental and housekeeping standards.
- Under direct supervision perform all required tasks related to the trade associated with the respective project.
- Work with and assist Operator of a higher grade.
- Under general supervision, perform tasks which the Apprentice has completed and signed off in the Apprenticeship Program.
- Maintain the cleanliness and housekeeping of workshops and equipment in current work areas.
- Complete training in the Apprenticeship Program at the pace and knowledge level prescribed in the Apprentice and Training Standard.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Must be accepted into the Apprenticship Program in accordance with the Apprenticeship Agreement.
Education, Experience and Certifications
- 2-year AAS degree in Electrical or Mechanical or related degree (Accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET); Electrical preferred;
