Developmental Intern - Corporate Communications

Location: White Plains, NY, US

This select 12-week paid internship program begins June 2019 and ends August 2019.


The Corporate Communications intern will work on a variety of internal and marketing communications.  NYPA is expanding its customer base, so the intern will have the opportunity to use their writing and analytic skills to develop communications materials for different audiences.

The intern will also support the media relations team in promoting the many programs and initiatives being undertaken at NYPA. The intern will be tasked with monitoring media coverage, drafting press releases and coordinating with most departments throughout NYPA.

  • The intern will gain experience in creating materials that can effectively "sell" NYPA's initiatives and programs.

  • Through interfacing with statewide and trade media, will gain a great understanding of media markets and the news industry, along with the associated abilities required to navigate the terrain.

Education, Experience and Certifications


Technical Competencies:

  • Microsoft suite of programs necessary including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Phone skills.
  • Digital sign experience helpful.
  • Writing


Behavioral Competencies:

  • Outgoing.  
  • Articulate.
  • Willingness to coordinate and cooperate with the media team, corporate communications department and other departments around NYPA.
  • A person that can take direction to complete tasks, but it also able to self-start projects and problem solve.


Education Background:

  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree with a focus in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or Advertising.
  • A person interested in public policy, communications, journalism or even other fields of study that require a strong emphasis in writing.
