Developmental Intern - Energy Efficiency

Location: White Plains, NY, US

This select 12-week paid internship program begins June 2019 and ends August 2019.

Summary

The intern will participate in general project management work assisting Energy Efficiency Department in achieving the Business Unit’s goals to improve energy efficiency and stimulate new energy technologies in New York State through physical projects. Under general supervision the intern will:
 - Performs routine calculations and details materials and equipment to be incorporated in the work.  
 - Perform analysis of the economics of each project, present the findings to the customer 
 - May be required to prepare field visit reports to document progress and site condition.
 - Review project activities for technical content, accuracy, cost control and schedule.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities the intern will walk away with after this internship

 

Knowledge:

  • Basic Knowledge of engineering theory and computer skills 
  • Basic understanding of NYPA’s policies, operations, procedures and business objectives as well as those of the customers is preferred

 

Skills:

  • Basic understanding of the project management process 
  • Good communication and organizational skills

 

Abilities:

  • organize and prioritize work required
  • develop the skills necessary to analyze existing conditions in a facility, and address issues related to contracts, equipment design and operation

Education, Experience and Certifications

 

Technical Competencies:

  • Basic understanding of the project management process with the ability to develop project management skills.
  • Good communication and organizational skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office software 
  • Basic Knowledge of engineering theory along with ability to develop and understanding of energy management technologies.
  • Exposure to energy efficiency industry preferred
  • Prior water/wastewater treatment experience is a plus. 

 

Behavioral Competencies:

  • Team oriented approach to plan, execute and complete multiple projects on time
  • Able to work independently with some guidance.
  • Able to work in groups and take direction.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work required
  • Ability to develop the skills necessary to analyze existing conditions in a facility, and address issues related to contracts, equipment design and operation

 

Education Background:

  • The candidate must have good academic standards in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering discipline.
  • GPA must be 3.0 and up.
