Developmental Intern - Market Services Forecasting Analyst

Location: White Plains, NY, US

This select 12-week paid internship program begins June 2019 and ends August 2019.


The intern will be performing various case studies that will be used to support the decision making needs of the short-term, long-term and capacity analysts within the Market Forecasting Services Group.  The intern will also assist and support the analysts with preparing and developing various forecasting models, as well as conducting various types of variance analysis.  The research performed by the intern will be used by analysts for the purposes of making decisions with regards to submitting bids and bilateral transactions to the NYISO market as well as making adjustments to our modeling for greater accuracy.  The intern will also assist the team with deploying the new Bid-to-Bill system.

  • The intern will ascertain an understanding of how the NYISO Energy & Capacity Markets function and understand how load forecasting impacts retail and wholesale utility operations.  
  • The intern will gain an understanding of NYPA's Power Programs and how its customer diversity impacts loads.



  • The intern will learn and gain experience with using various types forecast models.  
  • They will also significantly sharpen their Excel abilities for supporting all types of analytics through problem solving and case studies.



  • Intern will learn how to collaborate to reach common goals in a dynamic team setting.  
  • Intern will learn how to problem solve for supporting decision making.

Education, Experience and Certifications


Technical Competencies:

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite specifically Excel, Access and Word.  
  • A basic understanding of web based applications.  
  • Ability to solve math problems.  
  • Basic understand of Database functionality.  
  • An ability to articulate and communicate effectively, the results of the various case studies they will be conducting.

**Candidate will be subject to an Excel based aptitude test at the time of the interview.


Behavioral Competencies:

  • Ability to work in a Team environment by assisting and supporting analysts while multi-tasking several projects and studies.  
  • Candidate must not be afraid of working with large volumes of numbers and large databases.  
  • Must have the ability to take initiative for problem solving.


Education Background:

  • The candidate should be a rising fourth-year undergraduate student with a a primary academic focus in Business Administration (any discipline within such as Finance and Accounting), Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business/Data Analytics, or any related discipline.  
  • Also, a basic understanding of how to apply business statistics in practical settings is required.
