Developmental Intern - Sustainability

Location: White Plains, NY, US

This select 12-week paid internship program begins June 2019 and ends August 2019.


The mission of the Sustainability group is to drive sustainability performance across the company by integrating sustainability into core business functions and implementing cost-effective measures that improve resource efficiency and bring value to NYPA and its employees.   

The intern will work on a range of projects and assignments that support the Sustainability Program, including efforts to reduce NYPA's energy and carbon footprint, green its supply chain, reduce waste, and promote sustainable workplace practices. Tasks include research, analysis, preparation of presentations and other materials, and planning of workshops, exhibits and events. The intern will work with staff within the Sustainability group and across other departments and facilities.

Education, Experience and Certifications


Technical Competencies:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Strong research skills
  • Strong project management skills; ability to manage multiple projects
  • Strong writing skills; ability to prepare documents and presentations for senior level audiences


Behavioral Competencies:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organization and time-management skills 
  • Ability to work in a team environment and interact effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to work comfortably with staff at all levels, including senior executives


Education Background:

  • Sustainability, environmental science, behavioral sciences or communications area of study required
  • Two years of undergraduate study required
  • Three years of undergraduate study or one year of graduate study preferred
