Developmental Intern - Technical Compliance

Location: White Plains, NY, US

This select 12-week paid Internship program begins June 2019 and ends August 2019.

Summary

Support the RSC (Reliability, Standards, and Compliance) group by monitoring and tracking progress of annual work plan and assist in the continuous improvement of NYPA's compliance program, which comprises of NERC Operations & Planning (O&P) and Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) reliability standards. 

The intern will work with subject matter experts in the areas of control systems, cyber security and with the implementation of new NERC standards. Also, the intern will support the RSC group in managing various internal control processes including assisting in the administration of applications in use, such as SharePoint  and Maximo. In addition, the intern will assist in analyzing and suggesting improvements for systems and processes used for managing the RSC program, and organizing evidence and agreements related to new/modified NERC reliability Standards.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities the intern will walk away with after this internship

 

Knowledge:

  • Gain knowledge of the regulatory process and of NERC reliability standards and their impact to the Bulk Electric System (BES).
  • Awareness of utility and electric grid operations.
  • Cyber Security.

 

Skills:

  • Excellent skills revolving around data analysis, organization and dissemination and strong interpersonal skills.  Specific analytic and presentations skills in Visio, Excel, PowerPoint.

 

Abilities:

  • Ability to plan and coordinate projects.
  • Strong ability to manage time efficiently and undertake a variety of complex assignments.
  • A detail-oriented approach to managing multiple work tasks simultaneously.

Education, Experience and Certifications

 

Technical Competencies:

  • Knowledge of Transmission/Generation facilities
  • Familiarity with cyber security
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite

 

Behavioral Competencies:

  • Capable of managing multiple demands and ability to prioritize
  • Demonstrate creative and innovative thinking
  • Effective listening skills 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and knowledge areas.

 

Education Background:

  • 3rd or 4th year student pursuing an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering or computer science.
