Manager Transmission - Civil

Summary
The Manager of Transmission - Civil oversees and coordinates transmission related projects and activities in collaboration with the Civil/Structural Engineering group to produce high quality engineering solutions which are on schedule, within budget and in accordance with stakeholder requirements.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for high voltage transmission projects through 765kV.
- Perform engineering analyses related to transmission line rerouting, structure selection and design, hardware and conductor selection.
- Develop equipment and construction specifications and associated calculations.
- Work closely with other engineering and design staff to develop solutions and responses to customer needs.
- Solve complex challenges and work with external developers to ensure a smooth transition for interconnections with NYPA’s transmission system.
- Promote a culture of safety throughout the entire organization.
- Actively participate in NYPA’s Transmission Maintenance Committee.
- Establish NYPA transmission standards and requirements.
- Manage staff including performance reviews, salary administration, succession planning and resource balancing.
- Identify and recommend solutions to adapt staff to meet changing NYPA needs.
- Develop staff expertise to ensure succession planning and critical core competencies are maintained within NYPA.
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, site personnel, project management, project development & licensing, emergency management, regulatory agencies, external stakeholders and other business units.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of transmission related regulations and guidelines.
- Thorough understanding of NESC requirements and other codes, standards, regulations and construction processes within the utility industry.
- Subject matter expertise in civil, structural, hydraulics/hydrology and geotechnical engineering.
- Strong knowledge of transmission related regulations and guidelines.

- Thorough understanding of NYPA’s transmission maintenance and construction practices.
- Strong project collaboration and effective communication skills.
- Strong leadership ability and technical background to develop staff and maintain a highly skilled workforce.
- Broad knowledge of NYPA's mission, policies and procedures and the interaction and responsibilities of the various NYPA business units.
- Ability to produce clear and concise reports, presentations and other documentation.
- Ability to apply technical and theoretical knowledge to data and observations in order to generate complete solutions using accepted standards.
- Strong platform skills and ability to tailor presentation to the technical understanding of any audience.
- Ability to respond and adapt to emergent and changing priorities including NYPA, PSC, Article XII and NYISO.
- Capable of building teams and fostering teamwork amongst management and bargaining unit personnel; strong collaborative and negotiation skills to influence senior management, peers, outside policy makers and other NYPA personnel.
- Proficient in PLS CADD, Microsoft Office, SAP, Maximo, Mosaic and other platforms as required.
Education, Experience and Certifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Hydraulics/Hydrology or Geotechnical engineering. An advanced degree is preferred.
- Technical expertise, typically acquired with a minimum of twelve (12) years applicable experience.
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer in NYS.
- Knowledge of industry codes and standards.
- Knowledge of federal, state and local regulations
Physical Requirements
- Ability to access all areas of the plant including ability to climb and work at high elevations and in confined spaces; ability to walk a significant distance, sometimes on uneven ground.
- Approximately 25% travel, primarily within NY State
