Project Finance Manager

Summary

The Project Finance Manager will be supporting NYPA’s financial structuring and investment activities for large scale renewable generation, transmission energy efficiency and distributed generation. The incumbent will work on a variety of projects including transmission, energy efficiency, solar, onshore wind and offshore wind, plus others. This position will help NYPA fulfill its role in New York State’s GHG reduction goals through clean energy project development. The incumbent must understand the intricacies of various debt and equity financing structures and tax incentives. In this role, the incumbent will provide due diligence and financial analysis support to senior staff’s execution and administration of project financing, asset valuation, acquisitions, power purchase agreements, new business ventures, energy as a service finance and other projects.  S/he will manage RFPs, financial analysis, program administration, financial models for generation and transmission projects as well as other corporate financing needs. The position will require complex problem solving with deadline-oriented work. Exposure to financial structuring will be significant.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in developing RFPs for various power projects and consultant support services. 
  • Develop and maintain financial models for various project financing structures including assisting in preforming sensitivity analysis and analyzing accounting and tax implications.
  • Analyze financial statements and power project business models.
  • Contribute to analysis and risk mitigation across all development efforts.
  • Compile and maintain industry data bases on industry trends and internal projects.
  • Monitor the trends and competitive dynamics within the energy sector by analyzing the financial
  • statements and operating metrics of public companies within the sector.
  • Participate in internal meetings, industry events, training, and conferences as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The ideal candidate will possess experience and knowledge of the various power generation debt and equity financing structures, with U.S. renewable generation tax incentives a plus.  Some direct transaction experience and a demonstrated ability of supporting complex structured capital investments in the U.S. energy, power and renewable energy sectors is preferred.

Key Required Skills:

  • Ability to think through complex problems and wide-ranging risk analysis.
  • Understanding of renewable power and/or transmission project development cycle.
  • Strong research and analytic skills, including statistical and quantitative analysis and the use of
  • spreadsheets and databases to develop past and future financial trends. Provide due diligence support in evaluating new project/business opportunities.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of detailed financial models for various power and transmission projects, including performing sensitivity analysis.
  • Familiar with various debt and equity power financing structures available to project developers.Assist in the development of key transaction materials including project cash flow analysis and management presentations.
  • Analyze the financial statements and operating metrics of public sector entities.
  • Monitor the trends and competitive dynamics within the energy sector, state and federal regulations and with our development partners.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to quickly pick-up on complex technical issues as well as political and interpersonal issues.

 

Education, Experience and Certifications
  • Minimum required bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting or a business-related field required.
  • MBA or a Graduate Degree in Finance or another business relative field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of finance experience with a strong background in financial structuring and developing financial models is required.
  • Minimum required 4 years of work experience in power / utility or project finance  (large scale renewables, distributed generation or energy efficiency a plus.)
