Associate Metering Engineer

Summary

The role of the Associate Metering Engineer is to provide engineering review, validation and troubleshooting to support the daily meter data submission to the NYISO by NYPA as Meter Authority, which is the input to the NYISO settlement process.

Responsibilities

  • Provide responsible engineer function in support of a limited range of electrical meter equipment design modification projects, equipment applications and failure research, engineering studies, and operations and maintenance activities. 
  • Independently administer on-site and remote technical support for meter system testing and commissioning.
  • Perform review and evaluations of operational and revenue meter system performance and to ensure proper operation and profiling of generation, transmission and customer load data. Identify variances and trouble shoot with other support staff to resolve issues.
  • Interface with other NYPA departments and external entities such as NYISO to support settlement activities of NYPA generation, zonal load determinations, and customer loads.
  • Create/Modify MV90 system records, perform meter data reporting functions and provide support for field maintenance of revenue meters.
  • Ensure deadlines are met as assigned by supervisors.
  • Independently coordinate work with other disciplines and departments for the successful development and execution of projects.
  • Perform inspections and evaluations on vendor products to ensure engineering requirements and Authority needs are satisfied.
  • Gather information (site, vendors and other engineers) for engineering tasks.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated basic competencies in the analysis, design and integration of electrical systems specific to the field of electric power engineering and metering systems.  
  • Work experience involving the application of fundamental power system concepts and an introductory knowledge of power system apparatus and systems, such as switchgear, transformers, relay protection, communication systems and meters.
  • Basic understanding of Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Work experience with common meter programming software platforms and/or meter data management systems

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited college or university.
  • Strong understanding of power system theory.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related work experience. 

Physical Requirements

  • Approximately 25% travel, primarily within NY State
  • Willingness to enter confined spaces and climb/scale power system apparatuses is required. 
  • Ability to access all areas of the plant and conduct physical evaluations of grounds and equipment including ability to climb and work at high elevations.
