Associate Network Analyst

Summary

  • Manages or performs work associated with all aspects of activities, services, technology, and products that IT provides and IT governance to ensure that IT investments sustain and extend its strategies and objectives. This includes providing direction and developing information technology strategies, policies, and plans, performing maintenance of information technology resources, training and supporting technology users, providing network and communications services, data governance and management, IT governance framework, processes, management and performance reporting of IT services, as well as, AGILe (Advanced Grid Innovation Lab for Energy), digital transformation, and research and development services. Manages all activities necessary to enable NYPA to anticipate, prevent, and respond to technology interruptions.
  • Manages network operations and leads technical teams through the design, implementation, operation, and technical management of NYPA enterprise-wide networks and network services. Responsible for providing solutions to various networking systems including but not limited to Networking systems, WAN/LAN/Internet, communications circuits, operations network, Unified Communications platforms, VoIP systems, telephony, communications systems (voice and video), microwave, wireless and optical communications.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and support the communications and networking infrastructure throughout the Authority.
  • Responsibility includes the Local and Wide Area Networking (LAN/WAN), Data Center, videoconferencing, Email, voice and voicemail, wireless and Internet access.
  • Provides support for the design and implementation of operations communications systems which support SCADA, Protective Relay, control room communications and security video.
  • Under direct supervision, assist with the installation and support of network communications (including voice and data)
  • Follow standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations involving readily identifiable problems.
  • Monitor systems and advise higher level Technicians/Supervisor of network status.
  • Alert supervisor or more experienced technicians of network failures or degradation and assists in performing corrective action.
  • Responsible for aiding and technical support for network design activities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Entry-level position
  • Familiarity with communication protocols, hardware, and real-time operating system programming required.
  • Awareness configuring and deploying desktop computers, laptops, and other mobile devices to end-users.
  • Operational knowledge of the following technologies:
  • o Server Operating Systems and usage statistics, specifically Microsoft Windows
  • o Network protocols and equipment
  • o Network architecture – both wired and wireless
  • o E-Mail and messaging
  • o PBX and telephony technology
  • o Voice over IP

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a computer science, engineering, or related technical or business discipline.
  • Related experience in IT related technical discipline preferred.

Physical Requirements

Up to 10% travel primarily within NY State. Overnight travel to the various NYPA locations within the state of New York is required up to 10 days per month. Must be able to provide 24/7 on-call support to 
operating facilities.

The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
