Developmental Intern - Transmission

Location: BlenhmGilboa, NY, US

This select 12-week paid internship program begins June 2019 and ends August 2019.

Summary

The transmission intern will help support the Transmission department at the Blenheim-Gilboa Power Project. 

Duties and responsibilities:

- Support of NYPA's TLEM initiative by reviewing submissions and supporting the Ops-Transmission goals.
- Update transmission tower assemblies and work in Maximo to support the Transmission Emergency Response Plan (TERP) and emergency spare parts.
- Work with the NYPA databases and update information by reviewing drawings and design documents.
- Work with T. Engineer/Planner, and Supervisor achieve department goals in Capital and O&M projects.
- Perform/assist in construction/maintenance inspections and other field work.
- Participate in routine meetings including weekly planning and monthly staff/budget meetings.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities the intern will walk away with after this internship

Knowledge: General knowledge of engineering, construction, planning, surveying, drafting, or other technical field. Ability to perform basic analysis (structural/electrical).

Skills: Develop technical skills by reviewing engineering specifications, codes and drawings.  Work with database software (Maximo/SAP/Excel/Access), data management, MS Office Suite, CAD. 

Abilities: The intern will interact with project teams and  solve problems and attention to detail.

 

Education, Experience and Certifications

Enrolled in a Civil Engineering or related program.  Junior year completed preferred.
