Summary

This posting seeks a candidate who has successfully completed an apprenticeship focused on the Sheetmetal specialty.  The selected candidate will be expected to perform general power plant mechanical work utilizing the Sheetmetal specialty as required. 

Responsibilities

This posting seeks a candidate who has successfully completed an apprenticeship focused on the Sheetmetal specialty.  The selected candidate will be expected to perform general power plant mechanical work utilizing the Sheetmetal specialty as required. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Under general supervision sets up and operates fabricating machines such as shears brakes presses forming rolls etc. to cut bend block and form or straighten materials.   Shapes materials over anvil block or other form using hand tools.
  • Fabricates assembles installs and repairs sheet metal HVAC equipment and structures; Installs assemblies in supportive framework according to blueprints using hand tools power tools and lifting and handling devices.  
  • Interprets specifications and working drawings establishes working points and transfers drawing measurements to field.  Lay-out and mark dimensions and reference lines on materials using scribers dividers squares and rulers.
  • Rigs materials and equipment selecting appropriate rigging equipment slings chainfalls etc. determines equipment and material rigging points.

Education, Experience and Certifications

Must have completed a formal apprenticeship program and have 4 years of experience working at the journeyperson level.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to perform a wide range of mechanical maintenance duties within the environment of a hydroelectric power plant.

Hourly rates for union-represented employees are collectively bargained by the New York Power Authority and IBEW. The negotiated pay rate for this position is $47.85 per hour.
