Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor

Summary

The objective is to supervise, review, and administer skilled and non-skilled personnel to ensure proper corrective and preventative maintenance of the Project’s mechanical generating equipment and auxiliary station equipment (and possibly other outlying locations surrounding the Project) in a safe and efficient manner to achieve the maximum power generation at the least cost along with assigning the correct number of craft to complete LEM in a safe and efficient manner.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and monitor the day-to-day work activities of the crafts; work with the MRM department planner in scheduling work activities; oversee the safety and the labor relation activities for the department.
  • Implement the MRM program:
    • Ensure maintenance is performed as planned and scheduled.
    • Provide input and feedback to planning
    • Support the development and use of work plans, job plans, and job packages.
    • Review job packages to ensure they are complete and current prior to performance of the work.
  • Develop subordinates to provide a capable and reliable work force.
  • Ensure work crews perform quality work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with approved job plans, procedures, and practices.
  • Provide input and justification for the annual department budgets for maintenance requirements.
  • Encourage a “Safety First” attitude and environment by leading by example and through the Safety Action Plan.
  • Ensure that the work crews and craft personnel meet the facility planning and scheduling requirements.
  • Ensure that time reporting for maintenance tasks are accurate and reported in a timely manner.
  • Utilize work schedules submitted by Maintenance Planners to generate personnel assignments considering qualifications, availability, and overtime issues.
  • Interface with other 1st Line Supervisors.
  • Coordinate manpower with other departments to best utilize available manpower and shorten schedule outages.
  • Manage employees including performance management, salary administration, succession planning and workload balancing. Identify and recommend solutions to modify staff to meet NYPA needs.
  • Enforce the Bargaining Unit Agreement, administer disciplines and handle “Step A” grievance meetings.
  • Supervise and schedule custodial force.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • A working understanding of the present and future operating systems throughout the Northern Regions area of maintenance control.
  • Good oral and written skills.
  • Ability to facilitate and address group meetings and also coordinate large scale outages involving many departments.
  • Skilled in problem-solving as they arise.
  • Good understand of the working systems used to schedule maintenance activities and as it applies to monitoring budgets and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to mentor, coach, and administer discipline to the craft personnel as required and to acknowledge personnel on outstanding performance.
  • A working knowledge of the contract and corporate policies to effectively guide the department.
  • Supervisory and Managerial skills to ensure an orderly operation of the department as directed by the mission set forth for NYPA.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • High school education or equivalent with the ability to supervise craft personnel.
  • Completed a recognized apprenticeship training program or have equivalent experience.
  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills.
