Director Fleet Operations

Summary

Provides efficient and cost-effective office support operations to the NYPA enterprise. Ensures NYPA information assets are protected, accessible and supports business needs.

Accountable for all owned trucks and vehicles.  Initiates vehicle purchases and scheduling vehicle assignments. Plans and implements maintenance programs to ensure all vehicles are in good working condition.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance to all NYPA sites for the maintenance practices of all wheeled or tracked vehicles and equipment.
  • Support maintenance activities at the NYPA facilities and ensure that vehicles and equipment assigned to the sites are allocated and deployed in a manner that minimizes work delays and associated labor costs.
  • Ensure that vehicles and equipment are available at the appropriate times and locations in accordance with operating facilities’ maintenance and construction schedules.
  • Manage annual O&M Budget, and annual Capital replacement budget.
  • Maximize performance through strong leadership and coaching skills.
  • Manage a large fleet located over multiple locations across NY State.
  • Manage SENY fleet maintenance at various hydro and transmission sites.
  • Manage vehicle disposal process utilizing utility equipment auctioneers, both live and online auctions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Familiar with applicable NYS requirements for vehicle procurement.
  • Ability to foster a proactive culture regarding fleet-related issues.
  • Financial models and accounting practices.
  • Development of financially sound fleet life cycle analysis models.
  • Working knowledge of Fleet management software systems.
  • Fleet leasing, buying and selling markets.
  • Maintenance oversight.
  • Procurement guidelines and policies.
  • Development and implementation of fleet performance metrics.
  • Development and management of warranty programs.
  • Fleet and equipment, and rules and regulations.
  • Local, State and Federal alternative fuel rules, regulations and mandates.
  • Development and oversight of preventative maintenance programs.
  • Development and optimization of equipment specifications.
  • State and Federal alternative fuel mandates and regulations.
  • Excellent adaptability and demonstrated aptitude to solve problems as they arise to ensure adequate, uninterrupted support of ongoing site operations and maintenance activities.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) ideas to various levels of staff.
  • Ability to lead by providing clear direction, coaching, mentoring, and constructive feedback.
  • Strong managerial and interpersonal relationship skills with the ability to work with various functional groups and upper management of business unit.
     

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum 7 years of related experience, managing a centralized utility fleet program.
  • Minimum 3 years of people management experience.
  • Experience working in a union environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Approximately 30%  travel primarily within NY State is required. 
  • Must be able to travel to all NYPA upstate sites including White Plains and NYC locations on a frequent basis. 
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and climb on a regular basis in order to inspect completed work.

The estimated salary range for this position is: $118,470.00 - $162,890.00. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
