System Operations Trainer

Summary
The System Operations Trainer I role is to continually review non-RTRR System Operator tasks, develop/ update, and deliver quality training to Control Center Operators. Quality Training may include classroom training, simulation technology, objective based site visits, and/ or computer based training modules as determined by Principal Operations Support Director and/or ECC Management. Training must support NYPA Policies, Procedures, compliance, technical documents, and tasks that support Control Center Operations.
Responsibilities
- Enter training record completions in QTS training software and ensure supporting documentation is retained.
- Become a subject matter expert on system operations in order to train system operators.
- Train system operators on system operations with a focus on the following subjects:
- NYPA Control Center non-RTRR task objectives and initiating conditions.
- EMS functionality and how technical documentation (Generation, transmission, water management) relates to established operator tools and system displays.
- NYPA’s role in the Bulk Electric System including basic power flow concepts.
- Analyze System Operator non-RTRR tasks and perform Difficulty, Importance, and Frequency (DIF) surveys
- Develop, update, maintain, and deliver training while validating competency and remediation.
- Ensure training material, student evaluations, simulation results, and records are organized and secured to comply with NERC PER training requirements and audits.
- Utilize NYPA’s EMS to perform simulation training when required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Technical writing/ instructional design experience
- Excellent organizational, time management, verbal, and written skills
- Ability to learn Systematic approach to training (ADDIE) process development
- Ability to deliver training to System Operators
- Strong Mentoring skills
- Ability to assist or provide NYPA evidence during NERC/ NPCC audits.
- Audit experience preferred
Education, Experience and Certifications
Education
- Preferred – BS degree in Electrical Engineering (or Technology) – ABET accredited
- Required – 2-year degree
Experience
- 1.5 + years of NYPA ASO experience or
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in Power System, Operations (Generation or transmission), Nuclear Navy or specialized miliary technical training and /or Instructor experience.
NERC Transmission Operator certification Not Required
Physical Requirements
New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is: $ 81,900 - $122,840. Salary offered will be determined based the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
