Developmental Intern - Operations Technology

Location: Massena, NY, US

This select 12-week paid internship program begins June 2019 and ends August 2019.

Summary

The Operations Technology intern will work on many different projects. The primary role for our requested intern will be Network configurations along with drawing and compliance documentation updates across our remote substations and also including the main campus. We will be upgrading our network infrastructure throughout 2018 at our remote sub stations. We will be also doing various other projects such as server migrations from physical to virtual, RTU upgrades to new RTAC, Scrolling monitors, Fiber upgrades, PC upgrades, etc... These upgrades are vital to our system operations and reliability. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities the intern will walk away with after this internship

Knowledge:

  • How NYPA IT processes work
  • CIP compliance
  • How NYPA maintains layered security on all assets

Skills:

  • The skills the intern will walk away with will be developing network configurations, producing Visio drawings, and RTAC configurations.

Abilities:

  • The ability to work with others and understand how we maintain systems in conjunction with other groups (site/corporate).
  • Team work and collaboration across many platforms.

Education, Experience and Certifications

Technical Competencies:

  • We are looking for someone with Cisco network configuration knowledge and abilities.
  • Having an understanding on converting Physical servers to Virtual is a plus.

Behavioral Competencies:

  • We are looking for a team player.
  • Being to work on time is a must.

Education Background:

  • Student in the computer systems engineering field, computer science/cyber security, or related field in IT is preferred.
