Assistant Energy Trading Analyst

Location: White Plains, NY, US


The Energy Trading Analyst function is the liaison between Generation Resource Management and all NYPA Generators, Power system Operations, Commercial Transactions, Market Issues, and the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) regarding generator bidding and resource availability. The position supports the GRM Senior Staff in reporting and aligning resources among plant personnel, dispatchers / outage coordinator, and the NYISO by coordinating and discussing market and plant conditions with the Power Portfolio Manager and Shift Supervisor to optimize plant performance and revenues. The position is also the liaison between the hedging (financial) plan and the physical trading of commodities related to plant operations.  In addition, the position is responsible for the compiling and analyzing of market data to create reports, responses, presentations, etc. to assist the day-to-day functions of the GRM staff in managing and optimizing the NYPA generator portfolio.

  • Assist Energy Trading Analyst with monitoring NYISO procedure, manual, tariff changes and other market items that can and will influence GRM policy.
  • Support the maintenance and submission of all required NYISO tests; such as DMNC, VAR, etc.
  • Compile data required by Energy Trading Analyst in support of the drafting responses to requests by internal and external entities.
  • Support the Energy Trading Analyst in collecting and verifying data required for submittal of a NYISO Discretionary Acts Committee (DAC) request.
  • Aid with the maintenance and updating of GRM procedures.
  • Help maintain and keep current the ERM Dashboard in Tableau.
  • Contribute in preparing and presenting analysis of market anomalies that can and have had impact to GRM.
  • Support Energy Trading Analyst and GRM staff in composing analysis of market indicators and trends.

Education, Experience and Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or business or equivalent experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Approximately 10% travel primarily within NY State to attend meetings and review submission data.
  • Ability to sit at a desk and use a computer and telephone.
