Summary
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for providing electrical engineering support to all New York Power Authority generating plant and transmission substations throughout the State of New York.#LI-AH1
Responsibilities
- Provide responsible engineer function in support of a limited range of electrical equipment design modification projects, equipment applications and failure research, engineering studies, and operations and maintenance activities.
- Independently administer on-site technical support.
- Ensure deadlines are met as assigned by supervisors.
- Independently coordinate work with other disciplines and departments for the successful development and execution of projects.
- Perform inspections and evaluations on vendor products to ensure engineering requirements and Authority needs are satisfied.
- Gather information (site, vendors and other engineers) for engineering tasks.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated basic competencies in the analysis, design and integration of electrical systems specific to the field of electric power engineering.
- Work experience involving the application of fundamental power system concepts and an introductory knowledge of power system apparatus and systems, such as switchgear, electric machines, power transformers, station batteries and conductors.
- Basic understanding of Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
Education, Experience and Certifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited college or university.
- Strong understanding of power system theory.
- Minimum of 3 years of related work experience.
Physical Requirements
- Approximately 25% travel, primarily within NY State
- Willingness to enter confined spaces and climb/scale power system apparatuses is required.

New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is: $86,510 - $125,000. Salary offered will be determined based the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
