Associate Electrical Engineer (Interconnections)

Summary

The Electrical Engineer directs, monitors, and controls the conceptual engineering, design for System Impact Study and Facility Study phases of new interconnection projects, new transmission projects, and conventional facility modifications. #LI-AE1

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, NYISO, developers, AE firms for the facility study design and conceptual design for the generator connection of transmission facility modification.
  • Lead site walk to identify point of interconnections change of ownership risk in construction, O&M activities after asset turnover and coordinate with various internal and external stakeholders for project support 
  • Coordinate with environmental, transmission planning and transmission operations, sites and legal to develop NDAs, facility study agreement, cost-reimbursable agreement.
  • Prepare project request and coordinate with OPMG to generate project number and WBS codes for cost tracking.
  • Review FES and  SRIS scope and reports. Coordinate with  engineering, design and sites, to provide asset information, drawings, and standards for interconnection to  transmission or generation facility.
  • Direct and oversee all in-house/ consultant activities relating to engineering, design, and procurement activities of the project including review that work is carried out following technical requirements and schedules; designs and specifications are reviewed to meet technical requirements.
  • Develop and review equipment and material specifications and bid documents, evaluate bid proposals and prepare recommendation for the award.
  • Review invoices, approve of technical submittals, monitor delivery schedules, and manage all technical changes.
     

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to develop complex engineering specs and perform intricate studies.
  • Knowledge of substation and transmission line design, engineering and construction.
  • Aware of changes and advancements in the industry and develop industry-wide expertise.
  • Understand how Electric Utilities interact with outside organizations, including other utilities and regulatory agencies, and with interconnecting developers.
  • Familiar with budgets, costs, rate structures, and policies.
  • Good presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong research skills, with an ability to find information and provide solutions to overcome obstacles..
  • Familiarity and knowledge of use of ASPEN One-Liner, EMTP-RV, PSSe, TARA.
     

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required
  • Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience required.
  • New York State EIT, preferred.
  • Experience with substation and transmission project development and execution.
     

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to climb ladders, and confined space access
