Associate Enterprise Risk Specialist

The Associate Enterprise Risk Specialist supports the development, implementation, continuous improvement, and reporting for the NYPA Enterprise and Operational Risk Management (EORM) function. The Associate Enterprise Risk Specialist supports the EORM team in the on-going risk identification, definition, assessment, analysis, mitigation, and monitoring of material operational risk events associated with NYPA’s major business processes that could adversely impact the achievement of strategic and business initiatives. The Associate Enterprise Risk Specialist assists in identifying, assessing, measuring, and capturing of operational level risk in the Enterprise Governance Risk and Compliance (EGRC) System. The Associate Enterprise Risk Specialist will also support the VP and Chief Risk & Resilience Officer with tracking of strategic initiatives as well as performing certain executive level administrative activities.


  • Perform analysis on individual operational risks and the risk inventory to identify underlying relationships and assist in the risk roll-up/alignment process.
  • Provide support for the Enterprise and Operational Risk Management team (EORM) and NYPA staff in facilitating the Operational Risk (OR) process by ensuring the robust identification, definition, assessment, analysis, mitigation, and monitoring of risk throughout NYPA.
  • Support the development of the operational risk framework and operational risk reports by providing data base support, mapping of data elements, developing and preparation of monthly reports. 
  • As directed, support the EORM Team by aligning processes and systems with other risk management units such as Internal Audit, Compliance, and Internal Controls.
  • Assist EORM in the development of training materials and assist in conducting education/training relating to the EGRC System to various levels of NYPA Business Units management and staff.
  • Draft monthly reports, meeting agendas, and other duties related to administration of the Office of the Business Unit head, including updates to the Board of Trustees, Senior Staff meeting agendas and presentations, All Hands meetings, Executive Management Committee meetings and others as needed.
  • Provide support on the on-going operation and data base maintenance of the EGRC software module specific to the OR program, including performing regular updates to the risk repository, assessments, and reports to ensure integrity and accuracy of the risk repository data base.
  • Work with senior EORM Team members to establish and implement the OR task level schedule to ensure timely delivery of assigned work products.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of various types of risk drivers, including Enterprise and Operational Risks.
  • Basic knowledge of enterprise and operational wide risk management concepts as they apply to the energy/utility industry.
  • Working knowledge of industry standards such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and The Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO) relating to risk best practices.  
  • Proficient in spreadsheet and/or statistical analysis packages. Working knowledge of Access, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project and EGRC Systems.
  • Working knowledge of the energy markets and financial planning tools.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver clear and concise analysis, underlying assumptions, summary, and insights with assistance from senior analysts and manager.
  • Ability to work and interact with various levels of NYPA staff and management across all NYPA business units and departments.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or Economics preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years directly relevant experience with risk analysis and interpretation and conversion of business functions into full process mapping. 

Physical Requirements

  • Flexibility to work overtime, as needed, will be required.  
  • Valid US driver’s license
  • Ability to travel within NYS (up to 25%)
