Associate Project Engineer

Summary

The Project Engineer specialty supports the various NYPA Divisions in achieving the Business Unit’s goals to improve aspects of design, engineering and installation of new or innovative energy technologies in New York State. The Associate Project Engineer works with internal and external customers to develop multiple end use projects incorporating new and innovative technologies to maintain NYPAs facilities, support NYPAs Customers, and implement NY State energy goals. #LI-AE1

Responsibilities

  • Manage and implement multiple projects and modifications concurrently.
  • Represent NYPA at local, city, state, and other official meetings and at customer, vendor and design meetings, contractor walk throughs, and making presentations to customers.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, estimates, cost analyses, specifications and design drawings including those prepared by vendors, contractors and consultants.
  • Evaluate project scope, review feasibility reports, make presentations and recommendations, develop design documents and specifications, evaluate bid results, and make recommendations for contract award.
  • Support engineers in negotiating change orders to construction and services contracts.
  • Keep abreast of the latest technological developments, products and revisions to the NYPA project input parameters.
     

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated familiarity with building mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of local/state building code requirements.
  • Project management and time management skills to handle multiple projects from start to finish on time and within budget with moderate direction.
  • Ability to develop project plans, timelines and work schedules as well as coordinate among customers, contractors, permitting agencies, etc.
  • Ability to develop proficiency in the use of engineering software to produce comprehensive analyses and reports and monitor multiple projects is preferred.
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation communication skills and strong organizational skills, including ability to organize information and effectively present ideas to the intended audience.
  • Ability to prepare complex reports and equipment reviews.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze existing conditions in a facility, and address issues related to contracts, equipment design and operation.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum three (3) years in engineering or project management experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Approximately 35% travel primarily within NY State increasing with increased responsibility.
  • Ability to access all areas of the site and conduct physical evaluations of grounds and equipment including ability to climb and work at high elevations, walk a significant distance, sometimes on uneven ground, and occasional minor lifting.

The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
