Summary
As an integral member of NYPA's Internal Audit department, the professional serves in a leading role to advance data analytics, continuous risk assessment and monitoring capabilities as part of the department’s key digitalization strategies. The role will be tasked with expanding and bringing innovative approaches to Internal Audit’s current processes to embed analytical techniques throughout the audit lifecycle and enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of audit activities. Success in this role will require strong partnerships among members of the Internal Audit department and business area management to influence the mindset for data analytics, identify data sources, interpret data, and build solutions to generate insights, identify emerging risks, and improve business processes and controls.
The Business Intelligence Analyst will work with NYPA’s internal auditors, all levels of management within the organization and key stakeholders within Information Technology to assist audit teams during audit planning and fieldwork to acquire program and site information to ensure audit objectives are met.
The role requires strong data analysis skills, outstanding organizational skills, exceptional interpersonal relationship skills, the ability to work independently, and to manage competing priorities effectively. The role may require participation in audits. CISA, CIA, CPA, CFE or data analytics related certifications are a plus. #LI-AV1
Responsibilities
Support the department’s data analytics strategy with a focus on continuous monitoring, drive to digitalization, and providing increased value to management by executing in the following areas:
- Design, develop and implement innovative data analytical solutions.
- Build reports and visualizations to effectively communicate data driven insights to stakeholders (e.g., visualization solutions of data into reports, graphics, dashboards to illustrate facts, trends, and insights.
- Design and produce standard and ad hoc reports and dashboards as needed.
- Drive use of data analytics during audit projects within department.
- Work effectively with colleagues to help expand the team’s’ analytics mindset and technical skills.
- Train staff to use data analytics tools where necessary.
- Documents and maintains data analytics procedures and processes.
- Perform analytics to support special projects as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience in data preparation, data analysis, data visualization, programming, database administration, and reporting.
- Experience using data to identify errors, trends and provide insights.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to execute multiple projects and work with multiple audit teams.
- Excellent collaboration and team skills with a focus on cross-team collaboration.
- Ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization’s management to deliver on business objectives.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Education, Experience and Certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Management of Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Engineering, Accounting, Finance, or related disciplines
- Minimum five years of relevant experience or combination of experience and education
- Proficiency with Tableau, SQL Databases, Python, R, SharePoint
Preferred:
- Advanced Degree in relevant field
- Working knowledge of Alteryx
- Experience with auditing, advisory services, private/public sector internal audit, IT operations, and/or IT compliance
- Familiarity with COSO, COBIT frameworks
