Category Manager(Services)

Summary

The Category Manager plays a critical role within the Strategic Supply Management (SSM) department. Reporting directly to the Director of Category Management for Services, this position will manage the Strategic Buyers, oversee the day-to-day development, leverage their experience with Design Build/EPC modeling and execution of category management strategies, gather market and supplier assessment and intelligence, and to maintain strategic supplier relationships.

The Category Manager will liaise directly with SSM leadership and business to review forecasts and demand planning in Construction and Outage Services for hydro generation plants, transmission systems and renewables equipment in collaboration with engineering, project management, operations, and other key partners. #LI-VB1

Responsibilities

  • Support Director Category Management to create value, drive continuous improvement, and report realized savings by using strategic sourcing and category management best practices. 
  • Collaborate with teams and assist Buyers to develop category strategies and initiatives. 
  • Improve and introduce technologies, processes and systems to better manage usage and evaluation of purchases for goods and services to align to business requirements. 
  • Manage the sourcing and category management activities.  
  • Develop market analysis to understand supply and market for category, update category profile, execute category governance initiatives and total cost of ownership, evaluate demand to increase efficiency, modify Category Playbooks to identify and pursue savings, coordinate with other internal teams to drive demand/project planning. 
  • Perform regular and extensive financial reviews to assess category financial performance. 
  • Ensure internal compliance with Supply Chain and Procurement policies, procedures, strategies, and guidelines on an ongoing basis. 
  • Supervise negotiation contractual/legal matters of significance to the organization.

  • Think strategically, to proactively understand customer needs, and provide solutions to overcome obstacles. 
  • Highly collaborative and team-oriented, with ability to build relationships with suppliers and technical and business resources. 
  • Excellent organizational, communication and project management skills with exceptional follow through and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple programs with varying competing deadlines. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills necessary to help develop technical requirements. 
  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to identify, quantify and utilize information to make recommendations that support business choices. 
  • Knowledge of sourcing platforms and enterprise resource planning, i.e. Ariba eSourcing, SAP, and other related systems and solutions. 

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. 
  • Minimum 8 years of professional experience in Procurement, Finance, Accounting, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related functional area. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of managerial or supervisory experience. 
  • Utilities industry experience preferred.

  • Office location: White Plains, NY.
  • Travel requirements: <5%, 

New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is: $138,930 - $169,810. Salary offered will be determined based the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
