Communications Generalist

Summary
Responsible for developing strategy, content and materials for internal and external communications messaging, including press releases and media advisories, web and social content, employee/executive communications and newsletters, creative design, and integrated marketing communications. Works across departments to build strong narratives, advances the NYPA story and strengthens and protects its reputation via thought leadership programs and communications events and activities. #LI-CJ1
Responsibilities
- Draft and create communications that build trust, engagement and a positive reputation with a variety of internal and external stakeholders through existing and new communications channels as directed by leadership
- Support of creation and upkeep of a master editorial calendar incorporating content plans from all
- Assist in communications and engagement events by assisting in shaping and editing talking points, presentation materials, and managing event logistic
- Write, edit/proofread and/or update communication materials as requested, including presentations, press releases, speeches, award submissions, websites, newsletters, posters, social media posts, brochures, etc.
- Assist with community outreach by attending, and writing about, local events organized, sponsored or participated in by NYPA executives and employees
- Partner with members of the larger corporate communications team to ensure creation and success of timely and integrated communications and marketing plans and initiatives, as directed
- Help prepare NYPA’s application submissions for a range of industry, community, professional discipline and employee awards programs
- Help identify/monitor metrics to assess impact of communications messaging, and summarize/create reports for presentation to management
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience in creating impactful communications for an organization
- Excellent writing skills
- Experience with digital communications and social media
- Build relationships across NYPA and Canals and remain abreast of their key projects for holistic messaging on all communications/marketing platforms
- Help create a collaborative, flexible, friendly and approachable team dynamic – with client services and relationship-building being a top priority
Education, Experience and Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree and minimum 2 years of increasing responsibility in corporate communications, journalism, marketing or related field in a demanding communications-focused environment preferred

- Associates degree and minimum 4 years of increasing responsibility in corporate communications, journalism, marketing or related field in a demanding communications-focused environment preferred
OR
- High School Diploma with minimum 6 years of increasing responsibility in corporate communications, journalism, marketing or related field in a demanding communications-focused environment preferred
Physical Requirements
- Up to 10% travel primarily within NY State

The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
