Summary
The Community & Government Relations Team is collectively responsible for fostering and maintaining proactive, mutually beneficial relationships with local, state, and federal elected officials, community and environmental organizations, and business and economic development stakeholders. Their goal is to enhance the Power Authority’s reputation and to benefit all New Yorkers.
This team member conducts outreach to both internal groups and external entities, communicates and disseminates information, and briefs other NYPA business units and executive staff. They develop and implement initiatives and actively collaborate with other NYPA business units to formulate further actions.
Additionally, this role involves participating in and coordinating community outreach efforts to enhance the organization’s image in a positive and community-oriented manner. The team member plans and executes projects aimed at improving the economic, social, and environmental quality of life in communities. #LI-CJ1
Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and participate in assigned region community outreach events
- Maintain records of past and future community / educational events in assigned region including records of: NYPA employee participants, external sponsors, address / time; literature, promotional items distributed; displays, vehicle displays if applicable, etc.
- Track and submit monthly Status Reports & Interdepartmental Weekly / Monthly Schedule of region’s events
- Assist and support various NYPA departments in accomplishing community outreach
- Assist and support other community relations representatives, managers and directors within Community and Government Affairs as needed
- Maintain Excel Spreadsheet of region’s inventory of promotional items and informational brochures and assist in managing and ordering
- Learn, organize, and access on a regular basis, the Merlin Photo Archiving program in order to input images and captions taken by NYPA SENY employees
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to decipher information and convey relevant information to management
- Proficient in Microsoft office programs including Excel, Word, PowerPoint & Outlook
- Familiarity with SharePoint preferred
- Ability to organize, multi-task and be detail-oriented
- Ability to plan and coordinate projects with increased experience
- Ability to manage time efficiently to undertake a variety of assignments
- Knowledge of or the ability to learn the Department’s operations, organization & Company procedures
NYC Community Relations:
- Support community engagement outreach and activities across New York City by attending community meetings, public forums, stakeholder events, and representing NYPA at local events alongside more experienced colleagues
- Assist with conducting research and support data collection and analysis efforts. Help measure community impact, inform engagement strategies, and track and monitor local issues, media coverage, and community concerns that may affect NYPA projects or initiatives
- Work with senior team members to draft briefing materials, presentations, talking points, and reports for leadership and external stakeholders. Become familiar with maintaining accurate records of engagement activities, contacts, and outcomes to support accountability and continuous improvement
- Gain exposure across NYPA by collaborating with internal teams to help align community engagement with broader organizational goals, including sustainability, clean energy transition, and equity initiatives. Support the planning and execution of public outreach campaigns, educational programs, and special events under the guidance of senior staff
Education, Experience and Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree Liberal Arts or related field such as communications business or Political Science
- Minimum 2 year of experience in corporate community relations, communications, business or a related field
Physical Requirements
Up to 30% travel, primarily within assigned region of NY State

The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
