The Data Governance Manager will be part of the Enterprise Data Governance & Quality Team within NYPA. The Data Governance Manager is responsible to execute Data Governance Framework, manage the existing Data Governance platform (Collibra) and lead various Data Governance initiatives, working directly with business users and leaders to meet their data needs. The Manager will also be involved in the administration of NYPA Data Governance tools and actively contribute to the operations of various enterprise Data Governance bodies. #LI-JP1
 

Responsibilities

  • Data Governance Manager role will lead and manage all NYPA-wide data governance activities and will have responsibility for improving the quality and managing the protection of sensitive data and information assets.
  • Establish and ensure adherence to an enterprise data governance framework for data policies, standards, and practices. 
  • Work closely with business to understand their data needs and identify data opportunity to improve the quality, metadata, and value of core data assets 
  • Collaborate with data owners, data stewards, data custodians and technical owners and perform the activities associated with managing data assets, business glossary and data catalog in Collibra
  • Conduct data discovery stakeholder interview and workshops to collect business data processes with business and IT stakeholders 
  • Serve as a liaison between Business and Functional areas and technology to ensure that data related business requirements for protecting sensitive data are clearly defined, communicated, and well understood and considered as part of operational prioritization and planning
  • Identify new business opportunities pertaining to the use of information assets to achieve efficiency, effectiveness and represent data as a strategic business asset to the Senior Management 
     

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of Data Governance Tools such as Collibra, Axion, Alation etc.
  • Working knowledge of Data Governance, Data Quality and Data Lineage concepts
  • Strong understanding and hands-on experience of certain Data Governance & Quality domains (metadata management, master data management, data quality, data stewardship, data protection)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with diverse audience across business and technical teams, and the confidence to present to senior leaders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and execute tasks across multiple projects with tight deadlines and aggressive goals.
  • Ability to manage senior relationships across all the Business and Functional areas
     

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of data-related experience, including at least 5 years as a lead within the Data Governance function
  • Experience as a lead/senior team player, able to manage varying priorities, projects and deadlines
  • Experience with Data Governance Tools such as Collibra, Axion, Alation, etc
