Summary

The Deputy Chief of Staff works in close partnership with the Chief of Staff, Executive Office staff and Senior Leadership team to help ensure that the President & CEO’s priorities are successfully operationalized and achieved.

This role is a critical liaison between staff, external parties, and the Chief of Staff on priority matters and ensures that the Chief of Staff, and President & CEO are appropriately apprised of day to day and urgent issues that impact the organization. The Deputy Chief of Staff supports the Chief of Staff and President & CEO with the flow of information to, and relationships with, external agencies, departments, and organizations, as well as partners in the private sector and community stakeholders. #LI-CJ1

Responsibilities

  • Strategize with the Chief of Staff, President & CEO, and other EMC/senior leaders to resolve problems and ensure that priority initiatives are managed efficiently and communicated effectively to relevant internal and external partners
  • Support the Chief of Staff and President & CEO in identifying and managing critical issues that have significant public or agency impact and require the attention of the President & CEO and other EMC/senior leaders
  • Provide guidance to senior staff on behalf of the Executive Office on major initiatives to ensure effective and timely implementation of projects
  • Collaborate with key personnel in business units and assess and elevate issues that need resolution to ensure successful execution of executive agenda
  • Support the Chief of Staff with prioritizing and ensuring the President and CEO has all key information for decision making and is fully prepared for meetings, speaking engagements, and other events
  • Create, collect, and maintain materials including reports, PowerPoint presentations, and other information for projects, special events and other initiatives
  • Lead special projects as assigned by the Chief of Staff and President & CEO
  • Understand the implication of various regulatory standards/policies being issued at both the federal and state level, upon NYPA’s strategic vision and ongoing activities and apply/educate others throughout interactions across the business

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • A high degree of professionalism and discretion, with the ability to maintain complete confidentiality of extremely sensitive, proprietary information
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communications, and conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated experience building collaborative relationships across all levels of an organization. Experience working closely with senior management.
  • Ability to perform complex tasks and prioritize work with limited supervision as well as meet deadlines and manage multiple projects in a timely manner
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions and balance multiple critical priorities
  • Strong technology and computer skills and intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Familiarity with  governmental processes. Prior government agency experience is preferred

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in a combination of executive support, project management, project implementation, or similar experience
  • Utility or Energy industry experience preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Approximately 15% travel, primarily within NY State to NYPA facilities

The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is: $134,540-$175,000. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
