Developmental Intern - Civil / Structural Engineering

Intern will assist senior engineers with reviewing shop drawings and contractor drawings to ensure conformance with engineering codes and standards, prepare calculations and assist with developing design solutions under the direction of senior engineers.

Intern will work with equipment supports, personnel access platforms, roof and building renovations that support our SENY efforts scheduled for this summer.

Intern will also work with concrete dam repair projects that require construction submittal review for FERC-required actions on different NYPA-owned dams within New York State.

The intern's responsibilities will directly support core technical functions of the Civil/Structural Engineering Department.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

•Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task with competing priorities
•Collaborative and team orientated

Civil Engineering with an interest in structural engineering and some coursework completed in structural analysis, concrete and steel design, plus some water resources experience.  Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.  Working knowledge of engineering design computer software would be a plus.

Ability to take direction and understand constructive criticism.  Ability to use multiple lines of communication, i.e., telephone, in-person discussions, written communication and email/digital means.



Education, Experience and Certifications

Must be enrolled in an undergraduate program pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering. Two or three full years of program study required.
