Developmental Intern - Digital Corporate Communication and Strategy

Location: White Plains, NY, US

This select 12-week paid internship program begins June 2019 and ends August 2019.


Assist in creating content for website and social media platforms, including but not limited to: writing blog posts,  interviewing NYPA employees, heading up the Intern Yearbook project, researching relevant media and articles, creating images/infographics, assisting in creating editorial calendars for social media, editing videos on iMovie and YouTube, taking photos at NYPA/Canal Corp events, etc. 


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities the intern will walk away with after this internship


  • Social media posting and scheduling, research, writing, photography, interviewing/journalism


  • All major social media platforms including but not limited to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Flickr; 
  • Preferred: Energy industry including hydro, solar, wind, renewables; power plant operations; functions of a government agency and Governor's Office, NYS canal system.


  • Excels at communication and writing; can collaborate on projects; able to take direction and work independently. 

Education, Experience and Certifications

Technical Competencies:

  • Posting to social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, YouTube, Flickr, LinkedIn
  • Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
  •  Preferred: Experience working with Prezi and Photoshop appreciated but not required
  • Preferred: CMS experience, specifically Sitecore

Behavioral Competencies:

  • Excellent communication skills key
  • Ability to work independently after receiving an assignment and with a team/peers 
  • desire to learn and take initiative.

Education Background:

  • Pursuing undergraduate/ graduate degree in Communications/media/marketing/advertising/journalism
