Director, Supplier Diversity

The Director, Supplier Diversity is a vital role executing communications and business relationships with external diverse suppliers. Reporting to the Senior Director of Supplier Relationship Management, this position will execute strategies for the Supplier Management function regarding the usage and performance of diverse suppliers. This position will be responsible to ensure NYPA operates in a strategic and goal-oriented manner by enabling the diversity, equity, and inclusion goals of the Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) function. #LI-VB1


  • Develop goals and strategies with the Senior Director of SRM to create value, drive continuous improvement, and provide realized savings to NYPA by applying SRM leading practices as they pertain to diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the supply chain. 
  • Oversee the development and execution of supplier diversity programs to reduce barriers to entry, increase diverse participation, and grow the local economy. 
  • Develop supplier outreach campaigns to build awareness among existing and new Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Businesses (SDVOB). 
  • Develop business development strategies to attract MWBE, SDVOB, and Small Business Enterprises(SBE)’s to support work throughout NYS. 
  • Lead communication and develop strategies with the Senior Director of SRM to conform to any changes, ensuring NYPA complies with supplier diversity laws and regulations. Develop and implement the supplier diversity policy with the Senior Director of SRM to influence NYPA's financial health through comprehensive and effective Supplier Diversity Programs. 
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of SRM to generate and analyze State-mandated MWBE and SDVOB Supplier Reports and Supplier Status Reports 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of supply chain management concepts in sourcing, contracting, supplier performance management, supplier risk management, operational procurement, receiving, and equipment management 
  • Knowledge of social economics, accounting principles, the concept of total cost of ownership (TCO), cost management and process improvement 
  • Highly collaborative with the ability to  build relationships with suppliers and internal and external stakeholders across all levels.
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to think strategically,  proactively understand stakeholder and organizational needs, and provide solutions to overcome obstacles.
  • Problem solving skills with the ability to identify, quantify and utilize information to make recommendations that support adoption.
  • Ability to establish supplier relationship management capabilities to drive compliance and performance 
  • Strong ability to develop and deliver engaging, informative, well-organized presentations.
  • Capable of building and developing teams and fostering collaboration
  • Experience developing and implementing policies and procedures 

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree required. 
  • Advanced degree — Preferred. 
  • Minimum of 7 years of supplier diversity program experience required. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience leading teams with large and/or complex work efforts required. 
  • Experience in the Utilities industry preferred.
