Director IT Business Relationship Management

Summary

The Director Business Relationship Management serves as a trusted advisor and business partner to client(s), as well as leads a business relationship management team within NYPA’s Information Technology (IT) organization. This position provides direction and guidance to client(s) to enable the best technology and digital solutions to meet the desired business outcomes. This team collaborates across IT service providers and fosters IT’s understanding of the business needs. Partnering closely with the Enterprise Portfolio Management Office to ensure alignment with their direction and provide IT portfolio management perspective.  

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate deep understanding of the needs of business customers, identifying opportunities and making recommendations on how to leverage technology to accelerate and meet business goals.  Collaborate with business leaders to prioritize technology investments.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with business and technology leaders, stakeholders and customers as well as vendors. 
  • Strategically align, manage, report and govern the IT project portfolios supporting VISION2030 and NYPA business units and act as an escalation point and advocate for the business customers.
  • Facilitate and guide in conceptualization, evaluation, and implementation of IT strategies, plans, and priorities for Information Technology solutions that support and enable NYPA’s VISION2030.
  • Coordinate cross functional business and IT teams to develop the business case, identify outcomes, and obtain approvals to prioritize and implement required technology. 
  • Lead team members by providing clear direction, coaching, mentoring, and constructive feedback.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to work with all levels within the organization including executive management.
  • Ability to distinguish presented user requests from the underlying true needs, and distinguish solution ideas from requirements.
  • Strong analytical skills and systemic thinking to critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources.
  • Ability to manage stakeholder expectations and resolve conflicts.
  • Experience in the planning, project management, and implementation of new technology and/or maintenance of large-scale systems across multiple hardware and software platforms.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and high impact presentation communication skills at all levels of the organization.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business, accounting, finance, or related discipline required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a combination of IT, finance, accounting, budgeting, and project management required.
  • Minimum 5 years management experience in an IT environment.
  • Utility and/or public sector industry experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • May include some travel primarily in NY State.
