Director Product Marketing

The Director Marketing directs NYPA’s Marketing team to provide best-in-class marketing support for all existing and evolving products and services offered to NYPA customers. The Director brings best practice marketing expertise for compelling go-to-market strategies from value proposition to structured sales enablement tools.  The position includes working with executive leadership to determine key overarching branding messages, establishing product-based value propositions based on customer needs, and working closely with staff to determine compelling messaging and supporting client materials.

The position develops a holistic message and unified approach for increasing sales for consistent revenue streams from the Clean Energy Business.  Working with customer facing groups across NYPA, the Director helps shape the most effective marketing strategy for NYPA’s portfolio of customer products and services with the aim of competitive product differentiation and increasing sales sustainably.  This position coordinates and leverages resources in NYPA’s Communications group for the visual development and production of marketing materials as well as staging of key customer events.  Through these marketing activities and better serving our customer base with valued products and services, this position helps NYPA fulfill its underlying mission to advance the economic growth and competitiveness of New York State and advance a cleaner energy future.

  • Develop marketing strategies based on customer needs for NYPA in selecting target markets and customers
  • Create brands to introduce new products.
  • Establish and monitor monthly performance metrics for the Marketing teams.
  • Lead the development of marketing content including oversight of evolving digital presence (e.g. Customer Account Center on NYPA.gov) and key customer events.
  • Support setting marketing/sales objectives for the group and develop strategies and tactics in support of NYPA’s mission and goals.
  • Accountable for coordinating marketing efforts between Economic Development, Clean Energy Business and Market Development, and the Energy Efficiency Business Units.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated marketing expertise including bringing new products to market; with experience in energy and/or infrastructure and digital industries preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across functional groups and large organizations.
  • Strong presentation development and broader communication skills that turn concepts into effective structured messages for non-technical internal and external decision makers.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to represent the company formally and informally to influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead teams to deliver results.
  • Proven capability to come up the learning curve quickly for new areas of business and changes in the energy market.
  • Demonstrated ability working in an unstructured environment that is evolving to a faster moving, digital services business environment.
Education, Experience and Certifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, business, economics, engineering or related field.  Advanced degree in, management, marketing, MBA, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years energy, utility or infrastructure industries; additional experience with digital service offerings is preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years in marketing roles.
  • Minimum of 5 years direct management experience.
  • Experience in working with customers (external and/or internal).
  • Experience developing competitive analysis to hone products’ value proposition and inform which product and service areas should be sales’ areas of focus.
  • Experience with governmental and private sector commercial and industrial customers.
  • Experience expanding into new markets/customer classes and leading initial customer engagement to support building early stages of the sales pipeline.
  • Experience leading marketing content development, including website development, social media marketing plans and associated usage analytics, and creating and implementing structured go-to-market plans.
  • Experience developing a lead generation plan and measuring effectiveness of these efforts.
