Director Product Management

The Director of Product Management is responsible for the commercial success of a product portfolio. This role, individually and as a manager of a team, is responsible for taking products from inception and ideation through design, build, launch, growth, enhancement, and eventual sunset. This role calls for a broad understanding of clean energy products and the market with deep domain expertise in one or more areas (e.g., solar, energy efficiency, storage, demand response). 

The right candidate  has experience collaborating across large organizations and problem solving. Strong business acumen is essential.


  • Establish the vision, strategy and execution path for the product portfolio and communicate that vision and strategy across the organization
  • Encourage customer-focused innovation. Provide guidance and oversight for market and customer research to gather insight and understanding of user personas and needs.
  • Oversee and provide direction for the creation and presentation of business cases
  • Oversee and provide input into the process for creating, documenting, and communicating product roadmaps
  • Oversee the gathering of competitive intelligence and perform competitive analysis
  • Oversee the process of creating prototypes and testing of product concepts, including the management of pilots
  • Lead work to create pricing models and facilitate pricing decisions. Work with a central pricing team if needed. 
  • Coordinate with product development management on the product development process and technical resource allocation
  • Ensure that product managers - verify completion of the product and the readiness of related elements; follow a consistent approach to monitor product adoption and collect and use customer feedback
  • Provide resource support to key account managers (e.g., join prospect/customer calls, provide sales enablement content, contribute to internal and external social communities, blogs, and portals), and directly participate in sales support as requested
  • Coordinate with portfolio marketing for relevant activities and deliverables (e.g., buyer personas, competitive positioning, market requirements, launch plan)
  • Initiate or manage relevant partnerships with upstream partners and customer development partners as needed

  • Ability to direct, lead and conduct market, competitor, and customer research to gather insight, assess market opportunities, and make the case for investment
  • Experience leading people, including the ability to build and grow a team and work with diverse skill sets and backgrounds
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to adapt to audience needs; Strong presentation skills
  • Strong administrative and management skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple projects, programs, and objectives
  • Ability to navigate culture and politics across multiple functions
  • Demonstrate  analytical, rational, and logical thinking for optimal problem-solving; Sharp decision making skills 
  • Creative and innovative; Detail-oriented, well organized, efficient with time management
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with buyers, customers, users and sales resources
  • Highly collaborative, able to work in a matrixed environment with IT, legal, accounting, and other groups.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of product management experience or deep experience in clean energy products 
  • Experience managing and developing a team
  • Experience managing a budget, including budget planning, forecasting, and tracking previous experience in technical product development is desirable
  • Energy analytics and software experience is a plus
