Economic Analyst

New York’s energy landscape is rapidly evolving to achieve the ambitious goals of the state’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). To remain at the forefront of the state’s clean energy transition and support the implementation of NYPA’s VISION2030 strategic plan, NYPA recently established a new group focused on energy economics.

The energy economics group is an internal economic consulting team focused on developing NYPA’s long-term outlook of the energy industry to inform NYPA’s strategic and investment decisions as well as improve NYPA’s positioning in NYISO market reform initiatives and NY PSC proceedings. The Economic Analyst will work closely with the Senior Director of Energy Economics and Senior Economist in the development of the long-term outlook and performance of internal consulting engagements. This position is responsible for conducting research and analysis on the energy industry, developing and maintaining quantitative models, and creating reports and presentation for a variety of audiences including senior leadership. #LI-AV1


  • Assist the Senior Director and Senior Economist in the development, updating, and testing of quantitative models that forecast and analyze the impact of New York state energy policy and regulations, New York Independent System Operator markets and rules, resource additions, generation profiles, energy market prices, capacity market prices, ancillary service market prices, REC markets, RGGI and other emissions markets, and ratepayer energy costs.
  • Draft written reports and create visual presentations to effectively communicate key findings and recommendations to various audiences, including internal and external stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research, summarize findings, compile data, and distill information.
  • Develop expertise in NYISO markets, New York State energy policy and regulations, and the broader energy industry.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent analytical abilities, ability to think through complex problems both qualitatively and quantitatively.
  • Strong organization and project management skills, ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and deliver results.
  • Strong communication skills including business writing, data visualization, and graphical presentations.
  • Deep understanding of economic and financial concepts required. Familiarity with the New York energy industry, including NYISO markets, PSC regulations such as the Clean Energy Standard, and legislation such as the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and external stakeholders at various level of seniority and from different cultural backgrounds.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneDrive.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience required, preferably in energy, consulting, or finance 
  • Minimum of 1 year of professional experience with an advanced degree

Physical Requirements

  • Up to 10% travel required, primarily within NY State.
