Energy & Commodities Trading Risk Management Product Manager

Summary

The Energy & Commodities Trading Risk Management (ECTRM) Product Manager oversees the daily management of the energy commodities risk management platform (e.g., Allegro) and analytics associated with valuing NYPA’s energy products and supporting strategic revenue preservation and enhancement, The role resides in the Commercial Operations business unit and also works closely with the Risk Management team. The Manager is the key interface with external platform vendor to drive successful outcomes in support of the management of a 5GW+ generation asset portfolio in an ever increasingly complex and dynamic wholesale energy market. #LI-JP1

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a product owner and Subject Matter Expert in the energy commodity sector to drive strategic analytics, new platform functionalities while supporting daily platform performance .
  • Develop Reporting and Analytics to support management and strategic business decisions around the asset portfolio.
  • Liaise and work collaboratively with business and advise on business requirements and subsequent development of technical/functional documentation, and associated vendor management (including change requests, contract management etc.) to deliver functionalities.
  • Manage Applications Configuration/Development, Enhancements to include new functionality, software upgrade/patches/fixes, and product enhancements (e.g., new features/workflow, code changes); and the related User Acceptance testing. 
  • Manage day-to-day system performance including business interruptions; ensuring user notifications of system downtime and connectivity issues and associated vendor interactions to resolve platform problems.
  • Development and management of the Budget of the platform, and Administration of maintenance and support, contract renewals, and issue resolution.
  • Manage Business Process Governance to include policies, procedures, processes, and updates and access/security management. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Subject Matter Expertise level knowledge of wholesale energy markets, specifically with the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO). PJM Interconnection and ISO New England a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of energy commodity risk management platform functionalities and business processes, preferably with Allegro and Ascend experience
  • Expertise with derivative instruments such as swaps and options
  • Proven ability to work cross functionally within an enterprise (e.g.  working with Commercial Operations and Risk Management teams) leading to successful ECRM related outcomes
  • Ability to effectively communicate between technical and non-technical ECRM stakeholders 
  • Excellent ability to manage multiple, conflicting priorities, communicate, and interact with people at all levels of the organization
  • Strong analytic skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; other visualization platforms (e.g., Power BI etc.)

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; in Business, Science, Finance, or Information Technology preferred
  • Demonstrated experience as Subject Matter Expert in wholesale energy markets, specifically with the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) or related RTO’s. 
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant energy commodity risk platform processes and product experience, preferably with Allegro 
  • Basic knowledge in programming (e.g., r, Python, SQL etc.) 

Physical Requirements

Ability and willingness to travel required 10% of the time
