Energy Market Analyst

Location: White Plains, NY, US

Summary

The Energy Market Analyst provides analytical support to the (Senior) Director Market Analysis and Hedging (MA&H) and the Portfolio Hedging team.

This position supports the development of forward hedging strategies and provides the needed forecast input for the next four years.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of power price forecasts for NYISO zones and buses of interest.
  • Monitor fuel and power prices
  • Conduct generation dispatch and revenue forecast analyses for NYPA’s major generators for the current year plus four additional years.
  • Calculate forward electric prices for customer groups.
  • Develop monthly capacity forecasts with hypothetical alternatives for current year plus four  additional years.
  • Provide forecast validation information to Risk Management group as part of their oversight.
  • Conduct annual updates of forecasts for ancillary services and small hydro’s.
  • Assist in variance analyses on forecasts.
  • Provide assistance to the Energy Portfolio Manager in the development of hedging strategies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong math, analytic & statistical skills
  • Ability to review output for reasonableness and provide independent thinking to re-analyze and problem solve when required.
  • Proficiency in Excel.
  • Ability to formulate presentations and perform queries.
  • Experience with Allegro or Ascend PowerSimm, strongly preferred.
  • Experience in Database programming and querying using SQL, VBA, Tableau, SAS, or Oracle preferred.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Business Administration, or Engineering.
  • Demonstrated utilization of strong analytical skills

Physical Requirements

Limited travel (about 10%) required primarily to our generating facilities.
