Summary
The HR Business Partner at the New York Power Authority will support the Operations side of our business. As an HRBP, you will have the opportunity to work alongside motivated, innovative, and collaborative teams to help NYPA lead the transition to a carbon-free, economically vibrant New York through customer partnerships, innovative energy solutions, and the responsible supply of affordable, clean, and reliable electricity.
You will serve as a trusted advisor and partner to management on strategic and tactical human resource-related issues. You will positively influence and impact the organization by building strong relationships and offering out-of-the-box/innovative solutions as a problem solver. You will develop a deep understanding of the business and bring with you solid HR acumen. You will assess and anticipate HR-related needs and work proactively with our HR department, business management, and HR Centers of Excellence (COEs) to ensure the effective execution of programs and initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Partner with assigned business units to implement and manage key HR initiatives and programs throughout the organization
- Serve as a trusted partner and advisor to senior leadership
- Partner with all HR teams including Compensation, Recruiting, Talent Development, and Benefits departments to address trends, organizational changes, and drive programs
- Provide managers with strategic direction regarding organizational structure and approaches to leverage staffing and talent needs
- Drive HR core processes to business units including performance management, change management, succession planning, staffing & selection, and compensation planning
- Support, drive, and implement on-going improvements of programs, processes, and training that are consistent with maintaining a respectful work environment and a high-performing organization
- Consult with managers and staff on employee relations issues and make recommendations in response to management and staff concerns
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of employment laws such as FMLA, COBRA, ADA, and other federal and state laws covering discrimination and equal opportunity employment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as strong relationship building skills
- Ability to remove and overcome barriers to promote collaboration between and within HR and the business
- Ability to leverage relationships throughout the organization to influence individuals and outcomes
- Experience partnering with senior business leaders
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate organizational change and foster linkage between business objectives and human resources activities
- Strong prioritization, organizational skills with a high degree of professionalism, integrity, while maintaining a high level of confidentiality and customer service orientation
- Working knowledge of multiple HR disciplines, including compensation practices, workforce planning, employee relations, diversity and inclusion, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws
Education, Experience and Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in human resources
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a HR Generalist and/or HR Business Partner
- Proven experience supporting business units and leadership independently
Physical Requirements
Approximately 10% travel, primarily within NY State.
New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is: $92,660-$139,000. Salary offered will be determined based the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
