Lead Cloud Engineer

NYPA is looking for an experienced technologist to help lead NYPA’s technology platforms and capabilities into the future.  The Cloud Engineer works with the Data Services team to support Infrastructure–as–a–Service (IAAS), Platform-as-a-Service (PAAS) and Software-as-a-Service solutions deployment over the internet supporting the strategic technology direction of the organization.

Responsibilities

Solution Design & Development: 

 

  • Design and implement the cloud platform solutions using IaaS/PaaS/SaaS so that it is flexible, extensible, elastic, secure and reliable at large scale.
  • Design and implement platform building Service Fabric services such as Identity, Authentication and Authorization, Service Registration and Discovery, Deployment and Provisioning, etc.
  • Offer guidance in infrastructure movement techniques including bulk application transfers into the cloud.
  • Identify the top cloud architecture solutions to successfully meet the strategic needs of the organization.
  • Delivery of systems and services as per the solution architecture for both the platform and the applications running on top of the platform.
  • Support the functional area of cloud architecture by leading matrixed teams who work across the cloud team; Work with team members to design, and implement solutions across geographic locations

 

Infrastructure & Security:

 

  • Work closely with IT security to monitor the company's cloud privacy; Manage NYPA’s Datahub platform and provide guidance to Data Engineering team on configuring the production and non-production environments; Provision and size the cloud components based on project/use case needs; Provide guidance on information management lifecycle and maximize the value of the enterprise information architecture.
  • Responsible for establishing service levels and support processes for the analytics platform and tools by working with Operations team, cloud providers/vendors to ensure adherence to those SLAs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Familiarity with DevOps and Agile methodologies
  • Experience with any infrastructure-as-code (Azure ARM, AWS Cloud Formation, or similar technology)
  • Experience with any scripting language or command line tools (Bash, PowerShell, Azure CLI, Python, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of cloud concepts: virtualization technologies, IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, HA, distributed systems, and cloud delivery models.
  • Knowledge and understanding of cloud security policies, infrastructure deployments in enterprise-wide environments
  • Experience with full-stack engineering or DevOps experience (OpenStack or others)
  • Experience in cloud data management components (RDS, Athena, etc.)
  • Experience in designing micro services and APIs 
  • Hands on experience with public cloud providers (AWS/Azure)
  • Candidates with strong back-end developer experience
  • Knowledge and experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or both
  • Possesses strong organizational and time management skills, driving tasks to completion.
  • Able to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Able to build solid, effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to quickly learn, understand, and work with new emerging technologies, methodologies and solutions.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse group of customers, partners, and colleagues
Education, Experience and Certifications
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in MIS or Computer Science/Engineering (or similar)
  • Minimum of 8 years of total experience in software development with specialization in information integration architecture technologies and data integration patterns, including at least 6 years of cloud software deployment experience
  • Experience in working in a distributed team environment
  • Experience with software engineering best-practices such as build automation, continuous integration and continuous deployment
  • Experience in a combination of database and platform application services
  • Scripting experience with JavaScript, Bash, Python, or other similar languages
  • Microsoft / AWS Certifications in any of the following – Solutions Architect, Infrastructure Architect or Systems Ops.
  • Willingness to travel if necessary
