Summary
The Manager Market Issues will provides comprehensive services that support NYPA’s underlying mission of delivering clean, reliable power to its customers. The Manager will be responsible for coordinating NYPA representation on NYISO and other stakeholder groups, developing NYPA positions on issues related to the Northeast market design and FERC wholesale market regulatory matters, and providing relevant guidance within NYPA on emerging NYPA initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with internal NYPA stakeholders to implement market policy and strategy within NYPA and coordinate with committees such as NYISO Management Committee and Business Issues Committee
- Support Core Policy team by identifying wholesale market issues requiring NYPA policy direction
- Represent NYPA in various committees and groups, including NYISO Transmission Owners Committee and FERC
- Brief department senior management on relevant NYISO matters and provide updates for strategic decision-making
- Manage staff activities related to the administration of existing agreements and ensure compliance with market rules
- Provide support and guidance to NYPA groups regarding NYISO and PJM tariff market rules
- Offer market guidance in internal discussions on emerging NYPA issues, such as rate filings and strategic initiative
- Contribute to the formulation of NYPA positions on market design issues and ensure alignment with broader organizational goals
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong understanding of NYISO and FERC regulations and their impact on NYPA operations
- Specialized knowledge of technical or operational practices within the energy sector
- Ability to manage policy and strategy implementation for short-term results
- Strong communication and leadership skills for managing a team and setting objectives
- Effective problem-solving skills using defined policies and procedures for moderately complex issues
- Ability to build consensus and collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- In-depth understanding of the complexities of wholesale market design and its impact on NYPA
- Ability to be self-directed, results driven, and manage multiple activities simultaneously
Education, Experience and Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or a Business-related program required
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in Wholesale markets and FERC is required
- Experience as a team or project lead preferred
Physical Requirements
The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The estimated salary range for this position is: $147,000-184,000. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
