Summary
The Origination & Structuring team’s primary goal is to initiate and manage a portfolio of innovative energy supply offerings incorporating NYPA’s existing hydropower and thermal assets, wholesale market power and large-scale renewable energy projects including wind, solar and energy storage. #LI-AE1
The Origination & Structuring Analyst supports the development and execution of the New York Power Authority’s (NYPA) Retail Supply strategy, as a member of the Origination & Structuring team. The analyst supports the team’s efforts to bring origination, negotiation and portfolio risk analytic skills to the development of supply offerings and the procurement of large-scale renewable power contracts to drive New York State towards a sustainable and carbon-free electricity sector by 2040. #L I-AE1
Responsibilities
- Support the Origination & Structuring team in managing the Retail Supply P&L and all elements of the energy supply business, including the design and marketing of clean energy products
- Work in close collaboration with the Wholesale Trading group (Energy Risk Management), Enterprise Risk, Finance, Sales, Marketing and Wholesale/Retail Operations
- Work closely with Sales and Key Account Managers to identify existing and new customers for NYPA’s retail supply offerings. Develop strong relationships with NYPA’s customers, focusing on delivering superior customer service
- Support the team in managing large scale RFPs and PPAs on behalf of NYPA and customers.
- Support NYPA’s compliance with New York’s Clean Energy Standard (CES) and the Climate Leadership & Community Protection Act (CLCPA)
- Maintain strong knowledge of wholesale power market fundamentals, regulatory framework, and other factors impacting energy prices and NYPA’s mission and strategy
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong commercial mindset and commitment to creating a sustainable energy sector
- Familiarity with the NYISO market strongly preferred, other RTO and ISO experience welcome
- Demonstrated wholesale market trading experience
- Familiarity with New York energy policies and regulatory frameworks, including the Clean Energy Standard (CES) and the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA)
- Ability to work collaboratively across functional groups within large organizations
- Strong analytical and communications skills
- High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office products
- Experience with competitive bundled energy market products, including energy, capacity and renewable energy
- Experience with retail customers, including commercial and industrial segments, governmental and municipal co-op customers.
- Experience in responding to and conducting RFPs for large-scale renewable generation projects and Power Purchase Agreements
- Experience with energy commodity risk management platforms
Education, Experience and Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree required: business, finance, economics, mathematics, energy or technical field preferred
- Advanced degree in management, MBA, finance or related field, preferred
- Minimum of 3 years experience in wholesale and/or retail electricity markets including trading, pricing, portfolio management or sustainability. NYISO experience strongly preferred; other RTO experience welcome.
- Experience in origination, power contract structuring and marketing
