Project Manager DER Advisory

Summary

The Project Manager DER Advisory provides overarching management, development, advisory services and ongoing management of distributed energy technologies and business models, including but not limited to, distributed generation, renewables, load control, and microgrids for the benefit of NYPA, its customers and stakeholders.

This role focuses on all technical areas for NYPA’s key strategic clean energy projects at customer locations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead customer proposal and scope of work development.
  • Oversee the development of technical request for proposals and supervise contractors to procure and install equipment and demonstrate new technology solutions.
  • Review contractor and consultant proposals and recommend project contract awards.
  • Represent NYPA as an expert on industry committees and industry groups by preparing reports and presentations and coordinating project collaboration to leverage industry knowledge for NYPA and customer benefits.
  • Liaise with strategic groups within the organization, including Energy Efficiency, Finance, Legal, Strategic Sourcing and the Key Account Management team in project implementation. 
  • Support the operation of a growing fleet of advanced distributed energy resource systems at NYPA and customer locations through supervision of project managers and service contractors.
  • Develop and provide technical input and guidance to NYPA in distributed energy resource projects, customer systems, energy storage, distributed generation and renewable energy technologies through research and industry collaboration.
  • Provide original research on technical solutions to manage customer and stakeholder requests for information.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Highly collaborative and team-oriented, with ability to apply project management skills to build relationships with suppliers and technical and business resources.
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of the renewable energy and storage marketplace.
  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to identify, quantify and utilize information to make recommendations that support business choices.
  • Strong ability to develop and deliver engaging, informative, well organized presentations.
  • Think strategically, to proactively understand customer needs, and provide solutions to overcome obstacles.
  • Maintain awareness of new and emerging technologies in the renewable and distributed energy industry, and the impact to current and future customer needs.
  • Ability to interact directly and independently with management of external organizations as well government customers.
  • Strong technical background related to distributed energy resources, building operations and grid integration, including system design and specifications, installation, monitoring and verification.
  • Strong project and contract management skills, including economic analysis, technical review, and experience with contractors, grant and customer contracts.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years of business relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of 1 years of experience in energy program development and  project management.
  • Experience or understanding of NY State clean energy markets is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Approximately 10-20% travel, primarily in NY.
  • Valid Driver’s License or ability to obtain one, required.

New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is:  $96,010.00 - $117,350.00. Salary offered will be determined based the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
