Senior Analyst/Programmer

The Senior System Analyst will be responsible to support NYPA’s Portfolio of Cloud and On-prem ERP applications. This role will collaborate with various business areas and provide technical support for various ERP systems and applications to meet the business needs. This role requires a solid ability to balance project workload, deliver projects on time while addressing critical production support issues. The role will assist in assess requirements, design, develop, integrate, and troubleshoot issue, also support large scale infrastructure migration methodologies and techniques (IaaS/PaaS) including application migrations to cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure). #LI-VB1


  • Define, develop, test, analyze, and maintain software products to help the business unit improve reliability and drive innovation
  • Oversee all technology aspects of application implementation and support including reports, interfaces, database design, patching, upgrades and enhancements.
  • Perform operations tasks including backup/recovery of systems, Patching, upgrades, incident management and disaster recovery
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across business and technical disciplines, with a strong bias for action. Liaises with network administrators, systems analysts, database administrators, external vendors, and software engineers to assist in resolving problems with software products/systems
  • Use best practices in software development methodologies while collaborating with other areas to understand requirements and drive continuous improvement of Smart Grid software applications
  • Support large scale infrastructure migration methodologies and techniques (IaaS/PaaS) including application migrations to cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure) within a large enterprise environment 
  • Responsible for supporting cloud solution resources, both IaaS and PaaS. Architecting and designing large scale enterprise infrastructure and integration patterns for cloud environments 
  • Install and configure systems specific to their software infrastructure - various software infrastructures including application servers, web servers, etc. 
  • Responsible for solving technical and complex problems on multiple projects and providing consultative support to internal staff.  
  • Conducts research on emerging application development software products, languages, and standards in support of procurement, development, and maintenance efforts
  • Assists in defining application implementation project plans, including scopes, schedules etc.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • In depth knowledge in application development lifecycle and support including large scale ERP(Enterprise Resource Planning) implementations.
  • Experience using a modern programming language (Java, Python, C#, Perl, shell, ruby etc.)
  • Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases (Oracle, SQL, Postgres, SQLite, MongoDB)
  • Working knowledge of building and/or integrating with RESTful APIs
  • Technical knowledge of all phases of application cloud migration, implementation, and support.
  • Experience architecting, designing, developing, and implementing cloud solutions on AWS/Azure platforms
  • Experience in migration programs using the AWS migration methodology, AWS migration services and AWS tools such as AWS Migration Hub, AWS Application Discovery Service and AWS Database Migration Service for deploying applications to cloud environment.
  • Understanding of DevOps processes and ability to use Azure DevOps 
  • Knowledge in various ETL (Extract, Transform, Load)'s using technologies like Pentaho, R/Python, SAP HANA, APIs, and Azure data pipelines as per IT standards for Cloud and On-Premises Data and Reporting solutions
  • Experience in developing visual reports, KPI scorecards, and dashboards using Tableau, Power BI, Crystal or any reporting tool.
  • Experience with configuration, change management, and testing activities. 
  • Strong knowledge of networking and routing protocols 
  • Ability to deploy solutions to the operational production environment.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree required, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred.  
  • Six years of experience managing complex ERP applications operations such as Maximo, SAP, OSI PI, CRM etc.
  • Experience in Cloud solutions (IaaS/ PaaS) and Implementation for mid or large size organizations (this includes private/public Clouds - on AWS, Azure, or VMWare)
  • Experience using Oracle, Teradata, SQL Server, SAP BW, HANA, NoSQL databases
  • Public Cloud Certification(s) (AWS, MS Azure, GCP) is preferred
  • Experience troubleshooting bottlenecks in multi-tier applications hosted in production environments
  • Demonstrated experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, POWER BI, BIRT, Crystal etc. 

Physical Requirements



New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is: $103,500 - $126,500. Salary offered will be determined based the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
