Senior Civil/Structural Designer


White Plains, NY, US


The Designer develops designs and detailed construction drawings in a discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil/Structural) as necessary to accomplish construction and implementation of Generation and Transmission  projects and modifications based upon information provided by specifications, design criteria, scopes of work or conceptual sketches. Design packages are prepared in adherence with applicable regulations, codes and industry standards and are vital for the successful completion of construction projects to ensure reliable and safe facility operations.


  • Prepare design drawings for construction based upon technical specifications and engineering design criteria.
  • Provide design solutions to technical and field issues for designers and engineers.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary design team, provide status updates, compile design packages, and ensure designs are completed on schedule.
  • Collaborate with other designers and CADD Operators to develop complete multi-discipline design packages from data provided by engineers and design supervisors.
  • Review final drawings prepared by other designers to ensure accuracy and completeness of design.
  • Verify field conditions through site inspections and interpretation of existing design documents to confirm that record drawings reflect actual field conditions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent technical expertise in design discipline with a high level of knowledge in engineering principles, construction techniques and generally accepted design and drafting practices.
  • Knowledge of multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Ability to generate a design solution that adheres to regulations, codes and industry standards.
  • Ability to coordinate project deliverables with needs of internal and external stakeholders, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to recognize issues that arise during the design process and solve technical problems.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and working knowledge of Raster Design. Familiarity with drawing management systems.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Associate degree required, Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years engineering design experience, 4 years structural preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Up to 15% travel primarily within NY State.
  • Potential for exposure to cold, heat, noise, dust, chemicals, solvents and/or any other substances typically found at a Generation or Transmission facility.
