Senior Compensation Analyst

Summary

As a key member of the Total Rewards team, you will provide strategic analysis, design, implementation, and administration of the compensation program at the New York Power Authority (NYPA). Reporting to the Director, Total Rewards, the Senior Compensation Specialist will be instrumental in supporting NYPA’s VISION2030 – our strategic plan built around the people of New York State. This opportunity will allow you to partner with colleagues across the organization and with senior leaders to ensure that our compensation strategies remain competitive and aligned with industry standards and our business goals. #LI-CJ1

Responsibilities

  • Provide recommendations on the development of compensation philosophy, strategy, policies, and programs.
  • Ensure consistency across all compensation policies and procedures.
  • Implement the Authority’s compensation philosophy, strategy, policies, and programs.
  • Administer the annual compensation review process including: market pricing, review of job title and description.
  • Handle new or changed position requests which fall outside of the annual compensation review process.
  • Administer the annual pay for performance process as it relates to the compensation structure (merit, bonus, stipends, etc.).
  • Ensure FLSA exemption compliance working with legal and management on assessing jobs.
  • Conduct research and analysis (quantitative & qualitative) of compensation issues including: overtime, market trends, play plan designs, incentive programs, stipends, etc.
  • Establish, document, and oversee the job structure standards; establish, update, and maintain a job description database.
  • Coordinate annual salary and pay practices surveys. Consolidate information and provide overview of market trends and best practices.
  • Interpret, counsel, communicate, and educate managers and staff on compensation policies and procedures to ensure smooth operation of compensation initiatives.
  • Provide recommendations and guidance to the human resources staff in the analysis of salary surveys, other market analysis, salary planning activities, benchmarking, internal and external equity studies and job evaluations.
  • Provide direction and technical guidance to lower level specialists.
  • Supports other members of the Human Resources team as needed to complete projects and keep others informed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of compensation, performance, motivation, and rewards programs.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience participating in compensation salary surveys.
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Ability to oversee completion of departmental projects and day-to-day work.
  • Strong research skills in a variety of medium to remain up to date on compensation surveys, trends, and laws.
  • Current knowledge of all human resources areas required (including: Federal and state employment laws, FLSA, ADA, EEO, compensation, etc.).
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills required.
  • Strong Excel skills required. 
  • Knowledge of and experience in using Microsoft office programs (Word, Power Point, Outlook, Access). 
  • SAP Personnel Module experience preferred.
  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills required, demonstrated flexibility and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum 6 years experience working in a compensation role required.
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation preferred.
  • Experience with technical industry preferred.
  • Experience as HR generalist or working with multi-site setting preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit at a desk and use a computer and telephone.
  • Minimal travel primarily within NY State.

New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is: $101,000-$130,000. Salary offered will be determined based the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
