Summary
The Senior Director, Product Management leads NYPA’s Demand Flexibility & Product Development function, with a primary focus on advancing Demand Flexibility and Virtual Power Plant (VPP) solutions. In addition, this role provides oversight and strategic direction for developing a broad range of innovative energy services and opportunities across NYPA’s customer solutions portfolio, spanning energy efficiency, electrification, and decarbonization solutions such as solar, storage, electric vehicles, and related offerings.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of innovators launching new energy solutions and services at scale. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, brings experience in demand flexibility and VPPs, understands how VPPs interact with other customer energy solutions, and has proven go‑to‑market experience working directly with customers to address complex market and customer needs.
This is a hands‑on, customer‑ and business‑oriented role, leading a team that drives NYPA’s commercialization and go‑to‑market processes for new product opportunities—setting product vision and strategy, ensuring solutions are customer‑focused, aligned with other in‑market offerings, and positioned for sustained success. The Senior Director oversees and prioritizes products from inception and ideation through design, build, launch, growth, enhancement, and eventual sunset, including ongoing maintenance, evolution, or pivoting as needed. Throughout the product lifecycle, the Senior Director collaborates with subject matter experts and internal and external stakeholders to develop robust justifications, business cases, and implementation plans that guide product decisions and ensure NYPA’s portfolio delivers meaningful value to its customers. #LI-VB1
Responsibilities
- Provide senior leadership and establish programs and strategies for identification and development of product opportunities for NYPA.
- Manage stage business process, ensuring that all internal stakeholders are engaged
- Facilitate the strategic planning process by identifying high impact opportunities and structuring tradeoff analyses.
- Oversee the development of competitive intelligence and performs competitive analyses
- Lead product teams consisting of technical, environmental, commercial/marketing and financial disciplines in developing products
- Provide oversight and coaching for product enhancements
- Ensure that product managers are properly documenting product requirements, user stories, and artifacts to support the product development process
- Ensure that product managers follow a consistent approach to monitor product adoption and use and collect customer feedback
- Oversee and enforce a consistent, objective process to prioritize and select product enhancements
- Participate in industry events, trainings, and conferences as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Successful track record of products developed under candidate’s leadership.
- Exceptional communication skills including strong business writing and verbal presentation abilities .
- Strong leadership skills with the proven ability to lead and execute strategic business initiatives and provide tactical planning.
- Comprehensive understanding of NYPA’s business model, financial processes and its customers.
- Strong knowledge of the energy utility customer products.
- High degree of motivation, flexibility, and reliability.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with colleagues and external organizations from various cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to direct the management of multiple large projects, provide regular updates to senior management and deliver quality work under time constraints.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and ability to express ideas clearly, concisely and logically, with advanced business savvy.
- Ability to disseminate information, evaluate facts, determine alternative solutions to problems, and reach sound management and business decisions.
- Ability to identify and evaluate “transformational” and/or inorganic growth ideas.
- Ability to independently build, maintain and evaluate complex financial models.
- Strong analytical and management skills.
Education, Experience and Certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Economics, Finance, Strategic Planning or the equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or the equivalent, preferred.
- Advanced degree in Business Administration or related field, preferred
- Minimum of 10 years of experience with energy project/business development.
- Minimum of 3 years of people management/leadership experience.
- Experience working in or with government agencies, preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability and willingness to travel required 15% of the time.
- Valid NY State driver’s license.
- Ability to visit customer sites.
The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The estimated salary range for this position is: $182,000 - $230,000. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
