Responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise in electrical system design, integration, testing, maintenance, and operations across generation, transmission, and substation environments.
- Serve as design authority and engineer‑of‑record for electrical engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations; provide professional signature and seal.
- Oversee inspection and evaluation of electrical equipment and systems for installation quality, condition assessment, troubleshooting, and reliability improvements.
- Review, approve, and ensure completeness of design packages, specifications, and modification documents produced internally or externally.
- Lead NERC/NPCC compliance activities, ensuring proper documentation, analysis, and execution of responsibilities within Engineering.
- Develop technical standards, equipment specifications, and station architecture for electrical systems.
- Manage, mentor, and develop engineering staff while overseeing workload balancing, performance reviews, and resource planning.
- Represent NYPA externally through committees, technical societies, and interconnection evaluations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Expert knowledge of electrical systems across utilities, generation plants, substations, and customer facilities.
- Strong competence with electrical analysis software, SCADA/control systems, relay protection, metering, grounding, cable systems, and rotating machinery.
- Extensive familiarity with codes, standards, and regulatory requirements (IEEE, IEC, NEC, NERC, NPCC).
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams and manage complex technical and project challenges.
- Strong communication skills including documentation, presentations, and stakeholder negotiation.
- Advanced analytical and problem‑solving capabilities, responding to changing project needs and technical issues.
Education, Experience and Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent required; Master’s preferred.
- 7–12+ years of utility or industrial electrical engineering experience depending on level (P5-P6 or M2–M4).
- New York State Professional Engineer (PE) License required.
- Experience managing engineering staff and overseeing complex projects preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Approximately 25% travel, primarily within NY State
- Willingness to enter confined spaces and climb/scale power system apparatuses is required.
- Site ECC: Must be able to provide 24/7 on-call support to ECC.
The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The estimated salary range for this position is:$146,000 - $182,000. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
