Summary
The Senior Information Technology Project Manager (IT PM) working in IT Project Delivery supports NYPA’s technology projects by managing and driving complex information technology projects to completion. As NYPA continues our journey to become the first end-to-end digital utility, IT Project Delivery plays a critical role to ensure digitization advances across the enterprise, while supporting critical systems, services, infrastructure, cloud, asset management and more. The Senior IT PM’s contributions allow NYPA to deliver on our mission to provide low cost clean energy by leading innovative technology projects that deliver value every day.
The Senior IT PM will work with diverse sets of stakeholders throughout the organization, and will need to have strong communication and relationship management skills to ensure projects are executed as specified.
During the course of project management, the IT PM ensures the team follows IT ITIL/ ITSM standards, Enterprise Architecture, Cyber Security standards/policies & other NYPA and external technical and quality standards. The role requires knowledge of project and program management principles, particularly PMBOK’s waterfall and agile methodologies.

Responsibilities
Primarily responsible for management of projects
- Focus on meeting project commitments, including communications with sponsors, stakeholders, vendors, etc.; may manage contingent workers with a project team of varied sizes .
- As assigned, lead or assist in any or all of project phases including initiation, planning, implementation and closure for an enhanced or new system.
- In addition, manage a group of projects of different sizes and in different phases, concurrently.
Project Management
- Manage the project lifecycle which includes the following aspects:
- Develop and manage project documents via PMO project artifact checklist for specific project.
- Manage the project stakeholders’ expectations accordingly to realize each requirement for the stakeholder via business change and technology change impacts.
- Manage communication with Subject Matter Experts (SME) and assist in identifying opportunities for business process improvements within project scope.
- Manage the project team with realistic resource plan for requirement, design or configuration, testing, technical and organizational change management, training, and handover to product support.
- Mitigate any project risks and manage conflicts.
- Monitor the project schedule, budget and forecasts, deliverables.
- Update PMO Project Management site; track progress and review project tasks to make certain deadlines are met appropriately.
- Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures and Industry Regulations.
- Perform project document control and distribution and project financial tracking.
- Projects concurrently managed vary in effort duration, but generally are 6-9 months.
- Manage discrete projects which may be multi-phased effort, as a result of the work having different stakeholders or complex scope.
- Keep abreast of industry developments including, but not limited to changes in regulations and technology.
- Assist in the evolution and maturation of the Project Delivery team.
- Continuously improve project management toolkits and methodologies.
- Provide expertise and consulting to project managers in the process of project management and in the softer skills of team dynamics, teambuilding and group motivation.
- Provide mentoring, coaching and direction setting to team members.
- Ensure project team and staff training and development.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Understand IT missions and operations.
- Thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of project management discipline, including knowledge of waterfall and agile methodologies.
- Thorough understanding of project management phases, techniques and tools:

- Execute & Control: scope, work plans, resources, deliverables, Q/A, transition planning, etc.
- Closure: completion and assessment.
- Strong and tested project management skills including:
- Customer satisfaction management.

- Risk management and issue resolution.
- Financial management including budgeting, forecasting and reporting.
- Change Management.
- Knowledge of organization's methodology and tools.
- Ability to function as a Project Manager and/or business functional lead on departmental and/or organization wide projects.
- Contribute expertise in assigned area, execute deliverables and ensure that the project team completes project deliverables as outlined based on the project scope and business requirements.
- Ability to promote and maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner consistent with professional standards to get along with members, co-workers, management and vendors.
- Superior inter-personal skills, conflict resolution, and negotiating skills, to ensure open communication across project teams.
- Ability to handle broad-based, often complex, communication for internal and/or external audiences.

- Strong and current awareness of external trends and best practices.
- Understanding of the SDLC and other life cycles for the deployment of infrastructure, networking and other non-software projects.
Education, Experience and Certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a technical or business discipline. An advanced degree is preferred.
- Project Management Certification is preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of increasingly responsible experience, including experience successfully managing various projects.
Physical Requirements
Occasional overnight travel to the various NYPA locations within New York State, as needed by project.
New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is: $115,460-$173,180. Salary offered will be determined based the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
