Senior Manager, Business Resiliency & Recovery

Summary

The Sr. Manager Business Resiliency & Recovery collaborates and partners with IT Leadership team, IT service managers, and NYPA Corporate functions to establish the resiliency capabilities and continuously exercise the abilities to protect and adapt to NYPA's evolving business needs and implement the Digital vision. The role also ensures the enhancement and execution of testing and recovery planning strategies for various business and technical groups via best practice principles of Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery (BC/DR). 

 

 

The Sr. Manager Business Resiliency & Recovery supports all activities necessary to enable the company to anticipate, prevent, and respond to technology interruptions, including disaster recovery-related contingency planning while unifying technical resources in the event of service disruptions or operational risks.     

 

The role leads to the development, implementation, and maintenance of a Business Resiliency Recovery Program, including disaster recovery planning, risk assessment, testing, and ongoing process improvement. In addition, the position will support all activities necessary to enable the company and its subsidiaries to respond to a technology interruption.

Responsibilities

  • Partners with IT Leadership, IT service managers, and corporate functions to acquire the expertise to partner in formulating various program strategies, roadmaps, capacities, capabilities, services, processes, and procedures to support the resiliency and recovery function  
  • Ensures currency and completeness of the IT Resiliency capability and related services 
  • Manages coordination with specialized units and application owners dedicated to Disaster Recovery to ensure procedures and configurations are maintained and updated, 
  • Play a key role in the lifecycle roadmaps (in relation to Disaster Recovery and Resiliency) to ensure appropriate resiliency of specialized units, their processes, and technology)  .  
  • Proactively develops policies, procedures, and guidelines for IT system recovery plans and crisis management.
  • Communicates changes and updates to the Resiliency Strategies and capability maturity of all facets of the IT Resiliency services with all relevant NYPA functions and leaders
  • Coordinates Disaster Recovery testing, including the scheduling, execution, monitoring, and review of DR tests
  • Captures detailed configuration changes for all areas of IT and ensures they are replicated to the hosting environments (on-premises data centers and cloud services).
  • Remains current on technology aspects of IT Resiliency services and Disaster Recovery professional practices and industry trends to continually develop and maintain a resilient Disaster Recovery plan   
  • Manage employees including performance management, salary administration, succession planning and workload balancing.  Identify and recommend solutions to modify staff to meet NYPA needs (staffing levels and requirements for regular, temporary and contractor services) 
  • Manage and direct team with clear directions in resolving issues. 
  • Communicate and coordinate regularly with appropriate staff to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency in productivity. 
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to staff members with constructive feedback on overall support efforts, project goals, and individual accomplishments 
  • Provide consultative direction to senior level IT staff 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge in various IT service functions, including network, data center, system administration, DBA, Applications, Middleware, different cloud solutions, cyber security, desktop, helpdesk, etc
  • Thorough knowledge and experience in business resiliency and recovery procedure, planning, scheduling, and testing company-wide,  including BCP (Business Continuity Plan), BIA (Business Impact Analysis), TIA (Technical Impact Analysis), DR (Disaster Recovery), and various technical compliance areas, e.g., NERC/CIP, ISO5000, etc.
  • Understanding of industry best practices for Technical Compliance, Technology Disaster Recovery Planning, and Business Continuity
  • Basic knowledge and application of IT Disaster Recovery and Information Security Professional Standards and Guidelines
  • Strong relationship-building and influencing skills with the ability to be both a leader and a team player operating with tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to influence across multiple groups, including both technology and business stakeholders
  • Ability to remain calm under unexpected circumstances and time constraints
  • Experienced in program/project management to synthesize multiple tasks and timelines into holistic, clearly defined milestones and deliverables; ability to work within tight deadlines and a dynamic environment
  • Executive level presentation skills, reporting on KPI’s
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to convey complex technical strategies and plans to a broad audience from technician to senior business and technology management
  • Ability to lead, develop and motivate a team 
     

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required. In an IT-related discipline preferred  
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in IT services, disaster recovery and/or Business Continuity in a Technology setting
  • Experience leading technical programs, projects, or teams
  • Experience in IT network/data center operations or similar background, with a working technical knowledge of current systems software, hardware, and network standards at an architectural level
  • ITIL certification preferred
