Senior Manager Finance Transformation

Summary

This opportunity is for an accomplished transformational leader to lead the business transformation work streams for the finance functions at New York Power Authority (“NYPA”). As an expert, the individual will drive IT strategy for the Finance domain, create an integrated system that will deliver superior and best in class financial services utilizing technology as a platform. The successful candidate will partner with other concurrent enterprise level programs aimed at driving efficiency and modernization throughout the organization. The ideal candidate is analytical, motivated, and collaborative. This position reports to the Controller

Responsibilities
  • Play a key role on multiple cross functional initiatives to reengineer the overall financial processes; deliver financial rigor and discipline around the systems supporting various stakeholders.
  • Challenge the norms, improve accuracy and efficiency by designing and developing technology platforms for finance.
  • Actively partner with decision makers across the company to identify, recommend, develop, implement and support technology solutions.
  • Assess current state capabilities (process, data, and technology) and map the gaps between the current state and the desired future state.
  • Drive architectural and design choices, develop new features and build a scalable, service oriented platform for finance organization.
  • Responsible for the ongoing development and operations of the ERP controls and reporting architecture that enables accurate and timely fact-based decision making and ad hoc analysis.
  • Deliver on all phases of a large scale business process program – scope, implementation, stabilization and optimization. Manages integration of solutions into enterprise business environment
  • Responsible for the quality, structure and management of data and information within the organization, including the movement and normalization of data, the appropriate structuring and enrichment of data and the presentation of data for use by stakeholders.
  • Execute concise and effective project management and change management for the ERP system and impacted processes.
  • Develop, maintains and manages policies and procedures regarding data management including the use and acquisition of data discovery purposes in coordination with other internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Improve internal control environment to more efficiently monitor transactional risk and financial exposure.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proven senior level business improvement champion with financial management experience at a demanding complex organization.
  • Knowledge and experience normally acquired through, or equivalent to, the completion of a Master’s degree.
  • Highly developed critical thinking, including the ability to deal with ambiguity, and advanced analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Negotiations skills facilitating the ability to persuade and influence others at all levels in the organization.
  • Strong collaboration mindset with an ability to cultivate productive relationships with stakeholders, peers and teams.
  • Knowledge of design specification, programming, and testing specification.
  • Technical skills in all phases of systems analysis techniques.
  • Outstanding record of project management success, both in results achieved and in use of professional methodology.
  • Pro-active in developing and implementing strategies that significantly mitigate risk.
  • Strong and current awareness of external trends and best practices.
     
Education, Experience and Certifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Computer Science or related education is required.
  • Master's Degree in Business (e.g. MBA) or Computer Science is preferred.
  • 4+ years of leadership experience with large/complex implementation. Experience working with the Technology as well as in the Finance organization to understand both the business needs and Technology challenges.
  • 10+ years of experience with financial systems.
  • Experience successfully managing various programs and/or projects including the following:
  • Business and Functional analysis
  • Application development including design, build, test, and deployment
  • Applications support including maintenance and upgrade
  • Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK)
  • Certifications /Other: PMP, MS Office, PPM Tool Usage
  • End to end experience with at least one successful SaaS ERP implementation, transition and integration at a scale.
Physical Requirements
  • Overnight travel to the various NYPA locations within New York State (5%-10%).
