Senior Manager IT Project Delivery

This position is part of the Technology Business Management Team and provides leadership and overall management of the IT project delivery function, internal and external staff, and execution of the NYPA Business and IT Program/Project Portfolio (IT Project Portfolio). 

 

The Senior Manager will work closely with members of NYPA’s Enterprise Portfolio Management Office (EPMO) as we transition to a new Enterprise Project Portfolio management tool and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight and direction for all IT Project Portfolio projects and initiatives. 
  • Lead the project managers within IT, developing a consistent onboarding process for internal and external project managers.  
  • Provide input and feedback to improve project management toolkits and methodologies.
  • Comply with project governance policies and processes and ensure project managers are executing with high quality and consistent standards. 
  • Manage, attract, and retain talent within the team, providing day to day direction, feedback, developmental guidance, performance appraisals, recommendations on goals and reward recommendations. 
  • Mentor, coach and set direction to project managers in the process of project management and in the softer skills of team dynamics, team building and group motivation

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Understanding of IT and information management systems and experience to support business objectives
  • Strong experience project managing technology projects using multiple project methodologies
  • Financial management of a project portfolio including budgets, forecasts and providing variance explanations
  • Collaboration with other teams across the company and ability to communicate effectively with all organizational levels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, strong negotiating, presentation, and interpersonal skills
     

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, advanced degree desirable
  • Minimum 10 years of related profession level experience
  • Minimum 5 years people management experience
  • Utility, Energy, or Public Sector industry experience preferred
  • PMP or equivalent certification is preferred
  • Agile delivery experience desirable

Physical Requirements

  • Approximately 20% travel, primarily within NY State

New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is: $147,000.00 - $179,500.00. Salary offered will be determined based the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
